But wait, that doesn’t make sense - by Stephen M. Flatow

If the Palestinian Authority is against terrorism, why do its leader and ruling party keep glorifying, sheltering and paying terrorists?

Stephen M. Flatow..

The Palestinian Authority last week removed a photo from the website of one of its ministries because it showed a meeting of P.A. officials in which bottles of a popular Israeli juice were visible on the table.

For friends of Israel, it was another in a long series of mildly amusing incidents in which P.A. officials have gone to absurd lengths to slight the Jewish state. It was all the more entertaining because it exposed the blatant hypocrisy of P.A. officials who call for boycotts of Israeli products while they are enjoying Israeli products.

It also fits into a narrative that friends of Israel have been repeating for decades, but which the Arabs never accept: If the Palestinian Arabs would just realize that peace is good for them, they could be enjoying delicious Israeli foods, having easier lives thanks to advanced Israeli technology, be exposed to the latest agricultural techniques and so on.

I have a different take on stories about P.A. boycott advocates who violate the boycott. I say: Wait, that doesn’t make any sense. The Oslo accords obligate the P.A. to have friendly relations with Israel. It’s not allowed to promote a boycott of the Jewish state. J Street and The New York Times keep telling us that we can trust the P.A., that it wants peace, that it honors the treaties it signs. So why is the P.A. so blatantly violating the accords it already signed?

From the Really Losing It Dept. - Palestinian Authority: Israel and Hamas planning to assassinate Abbas

...Abbas repeats libel that Israel poisoned Arafat: "They can kill me in my home with bullets or with a missile at any given moment. They can also kill me with poison, as they poisoned the late President Yasser Arafat... but I will not surrender"

Mahmoud Abbas' advisor on religious affairs has accused Israel and Hamas of planning "an attack against Abbas":

Mahmoud Al-Habbash: "There is suspicious and dangerous coordination between the statements of the occupation state's leaders and the statements of the Hamas Movement's leaders on all that is connected to an attack on [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas."
[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 14, 2019]

Al-Habbash claimed Israel and Hamas share a desire to "assassinate" Abbas. He alleged that Israeli cabinet members have talked about "ways of getting rid of" Abbas, and said this was done in parallel with Hamas urging foreign parliaments to revoke Abbas' legitimacy as president:

"[Al-Habbash] emphasized that this coordination of statements [between Israel and Hamas] and the attack on the Palestinian leadership headed by the president is not coincidental, because both Israel and Hamas incite against the president morning and night, challenge his legitimacy, and want to assassinate him."

The "attacks" against Abbas refer to remarks by Israeli Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan who suggested barring Abbas from returning to the Palestinian territories the next time he travels abroad, and to a campaign by an Israeli private right-wing organization that on posters with Abbas' face seen through a rifle sight has called on the Israeli government to "eliminate those who fund murder!"

Fatah's Revolutionary Council Secretary Majed Al-Fatiani claimed this campaign is coming from the Israeli government:

Be alert when things are said about terror from both sides of one mouth

...The latest phase in this peekaboo now-you-see-it-now-you-don't performance by Abbas' government comes with a PA TV program on Tuesday that declares the axe men of the Har Nof synagogue killings as heroes for the cause, referring to "the death of 2 Palestinians as martyrs from occupation police fire", conveniently and despicably ignoring the knives, axes and guns in the hands of the two Abu Jamals as they launched a ferocious attack on unarmed men at prayer.

Even in an Internet-rich age, television continues to strongly influence what we know and think. And in places where access to a range of varying ideas and opinions is greatly limited, its role is even larger. The villages, towns and cities of the Palestinian Authority are a good example.

Here's a video clip (translated to English by the invaluable Palestinian Media Watch team) from their version of Good Morning, America (and Good Morning Australia, and Good Morning Tanganyika etc), the typical sort of light-hearted fare that people watch while grabbing some breakfast and heading out to face the day and its challenges. Only it's light-hearted in a very specific way that prevails in places where the values of terror and its attractions have become central to the way ordinary lives are lived.

The presenter in this show is Mai Abu Asab. Her program goes to air every Friday (weekend) morning under the name Good Morning Jerusalem. If we were fed a daily diet of this sort of messaging, we might not have the views about hatred, racism and terror that we do; many other rational and emotionally healthy people might react like us.

The channel is the one owned, operated and marketed by the government that runs the Palestinian Authority. The PA is the terror-friendly regime headed by Mahmoud Abbas, currently in the tenth year of his four-year presidential term. Abbas has our attention this week because of his gymnastic approach to juggling his public views on terror: unreservedly against it in English and strongly for it in Arabic.

(Video) PA TV sends "greetings and honor" to terrorist murderers and their families

As the news of another attack by terrorist murderers this morning in Jerusalem comes in, is there actually any question as to who is promoting them? Please share.

PA TV host: "First, as always, greetings to the heroic and brave children of Jerusalem who these ‎days are confronting the settler herds at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, in all the ‎neighborhoods of the Old City and all the neighborhoods outside of Jerusalem...‎ Greetings and honor to our heroic Martyrs, the Martyrs of Jerusalem – Hijazi (terrorist ‎who attempted to murder Rabbi Yehuda Glick), Al-Shaloudi (terrorist who killed 2), Al-‎Akari (terrorist who killed 2), and recently also Kheir Al-Din Hamdan from Kafr Kanna ‎‎(Palestinian man shot to death by Israeli police). Our greetings to the Martyrs’ families. ‎We stand submissive and humbled in view of what you gave and sacrificed. You are ‎confronting the ever-aggressive settler herds in the streets of Jerusalem.‎"
[Official PA TV, Nov. 9, 2014‎]

Mutaz Hijazi – Islamic Jihad member and released prisoner who attempted to assassinate Rabbi Yehuda Glick, a prominent activist working to assure rights for Jews to visit and pray on the Temple Mount, on Oct. 29, 2014. The assassination attempt took place following a conference on establishing times and places for Jews to pray on the Temple Mount. Glick was seriously wounded in the attack; Hijazi was killed soon afterwards when he opened fire on an Israeli police force that was attempting to arrest him.

Abd Al-Rahman Al-Shaloudi - On Oct. 22, 2014, Al-Shaloudi deliberately ran over people waiting at a light-rail station in Jerusalem with his car, killing three-month-old Israeli-American Haya Zissel-Brown and Karen Mosquera, 22, of Ecuador, and injuring 7 others. He was shot by police while attempting to flee, and later died of his wounds.

Ibrahim Al-Akari - Hamas terrorist from East Jerusalem who carried out a terror attack by car on Nov. 5, 2014, at a light-rail station in Jerusalem, killing two and injuring at least 13 others. He was shot and killed by Israeli police officers who arrived on the scene.

Kheir Al-Din Hamdan – 22-year-old Israeli Arab man shot to death by Israeli Police on Nov. 8, 2014 in the Arab-Israeli town of Kafr Kanna. Police claim that Hamdan was shot after attempting to stab an officer, but a surveillance recording shows Hamdan hitting the windows of a police car with a knife, and then being shot by a police officer while running away. Hamdan later died of his wounds. The Israeli attorney general has ordered an investigation of the incident, which provoked large-scale rioting in Kafr Kanna.

(Video) True joy is relative. Palestinian mother celebrates her son's death

(Video) Mr. Kerry, perhaps another reason your project goes "poof".

"...This fighter may have died and her soul may have ascended to Heaven, but still our mothers give birth to thousands like Dalal, and she still walks among us. Dalal Mughrabi has given us a lot, and I personally am proud to attend the Dalal Mughrabi School, which bears this pioneering name."

While likely that Secretary of State Kerry has given some thought to additional reasons behind his personal crusade's most recent failure, perhaps the following escaped his notice.

This from Palestinian Media Watch:

The purpose of the PA TV program was explained by the TV host:
"Today we are in the Dalal Mughrabi School [in Gaza], to get to know the Palestinian Martyr and fighter..."

Other children and teachers in the school were also interviewed.

Does Anyone Care What the EU Does with Their Money?

...As this author has humbly pointed out many times, paying people to hate you and your values, and paying people to carry out acts of terrorism against your friends, is a strange use to which any private individual might choose to put his money. But for a government – and a supra-government at that – to use taxpayers' money in such a way is criminal.

Douglas Murray..
Gatestone Institute..
14 January '14..

Occasionally it is possible to see a little way ahead and already it looks clear that 2014 is going to be an "annus horribilis" for the European Union [EU]. With voters going to the polls in May 2014 and the recent opinion polls showing not so much Eurosceptic as simply anti-EU parties in the lead in most major European countries, there will likely be a lot of things on the minds of the Eurocrats in the coming months: disaster emergency planning, location of escape-exits, pension and retirement plans to name but a few. But as the European tables look set to start turning, there is one thing that voters ought to keep right at the forefront of their minds.

There are many ways in which the EU displays a casual disregard for its distribution of taxpayers' money. But one of the most outrageous ways by far – with some very stiff competition – is the way in which the EU wastes taxpayers' money by giving huge lumps of it in aid to the Palestinian Authority [PA]. The laxity with which this is done and the uses to which much of that money is put highlights a problem which ought to make even the EU blush – and any decent taxpayer rebel.

Ignorance can be no excuse. In recent years a number of organizations and individuals have persistently highlighted the manner in which EU funding has been used to facilitate hate-materials and hate-teaching in Palestinian schools. Foremost among the organizations that have highlighted this has been Palestinian Media Watch [PMW], which has systematically and carefully collected and translated for wider English-speaking consumption the sort of language that is used routinely in the education sectors in Palestinian society. And as in the schools, so in the media. For EU money is also used to fund various Palestinian media outfits. And the diet of hatred they spew out is the stuff of legend. For instance, there is the aid money that goes to television stations such as that which PMW recently showed to be broadcasting material describing Jews as "rats" and "crows."

But it is not just in schools and the media that EU money has been put to such wildly inappropriate use. As highlighted before, perhaps the most appalling misuse of public funds has been the EU payment of salaries to the families of convicted terrorists. This issue of the EU payments of terrorist's salaries while the terrorists are in prison has been a not yet hot-enough potato for some time now. After the last round of exposure in 2012, some EU officials criticized the PA for using public monies in this way. But as PMW has just shown again, the response of PA officials to this is not only disrespectful towards the EU. It is openly contemptuous, derogatory, scornful and dismissive of the hand that is presuming to feed them.

(Video) "Itamar Marcus, thank you very much for what you do for the Jewish people."

Palestinian Media Watch..
09 July '13..

[Israeli TV, April 5, 2013]

TV hosts: "We'll continue discussing foreign affairs with Itamar Marcus who I'm already awarding a small Israel Prize, or maybe a big one. Do you have one here? - I do, just a second. Norway has discovered that funds it gave to the PA are given to security prisoners. This information was brought to Norway's attention by PMW. Here is Itamar Marcus, director of PMW, good morning... You've been trying for years to bring this information to the world's attention. How did you suddenly succeed?"

PMW director, Itamar Marcus: "Two years ago we published that funds are going to monthly salaries for Palestinian terrorist prisoners. If the prisoner is senior enough and has spent enough time in prison these salaries can reach 12,000 shekels per month."

TV host: "Meaning, the Norwegians are paying the salaries of serial killers, people who committed horrifying crimes - at the taxpayer's expense."

PMW director, Itamar Marcus: "And not just the Norwegians, the EU, all European countries, the US as well. Anyone contributing to the PA's general budget is also funding security prisoners, including terrorists who committed murder."

TV host: "What do they think they're paying for?"

Itamar Marcus: "They want to strengthen the PA. They see it as a future state. They believe the money is going towards state-building. They don't understand that it's also going to security prisoners, towards extreme hate incitement against Jews and Israelis, which will make future peace impossible... In recent years we've been going from parliament to parliament in Europe, and to US Congress, presenting PA TV clips, examples from textbooks, from the education system and from [PA] Ministries such as the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Sports..."

TV host: "What clip or section impresses the European associates the most? What do they see that makes them suddenly realize? When they see small children aspiring to become Martyrs?"

Itamar Marcus: "When they see the children."

(Video) What nerve! They call our planners of suicide bombings "terrorists"

Palestinian Media Watch..
01 July '13..

PA TV host: "I want to tell the Israelis that our prisoners are heroes and not terrorists. What I saw reminded me of an Israeli website called "PMW" or "Palestinian Media Watch," a site that monitors the Palestinian media. Of course every visit that we film for a prisoner gets them angry. I was surprised a week ago that [regarding] brother Ibrahim Hamed (54 life sentences), brother Abbas Al-Sayid (35 life sentences), and brother Abdallah Barghouti (67 life sentences), they [PMW] objected, they were upset, they slandered these heroes and claimed that they are terrorists. If they see Abdallah Barghouti as a terrorist, Abbas Al-Sayid as a terrorist, Ibrahim Hamed and Nasser Awais (14 life sentences), if they see all these prisoners as terrorists, we see them as heroes... I salute you, all you heroic fighter prisoners, and of course I always wish you freedom."

(Video) Norwegian tax money is being used to fund terrorism? Yes, however...

Palwatch..
06 March '13..

Transcript:
NRK TV newsreader: "Convicted Palestinian terrorists in Israeli prisons receive salaries from their government, an Israeli organization [PMW] claims..."

NRK TV narrator: "A bomb was placed in the cafeteria at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Nine civilians were killed that day in July 2002. The man behind [the attack] was Ibrahim Hamed, convicted of the murder of a total of 46 Israelis. Ibrahim Hamed is one of the approximately 4,600 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, who, according to the Israeli organization Palestinian Media Watch (PMW), receive salaries from the PA while they are in prison."

PMW Director Itamar Marcus: "Every Palestinian prisoner in an Israeli jail who is there for security offenses, who is there for - that includes any terrorist offense, including murder, receives a monthly salary from the Palestinian Authority. This includes people who've murdered 50-60 people in suicide bombings that they organized."

NRK TV narrator: "Since 2008, Norway has given over 300 million [Norwegian] kroner annually in direct budget support to the PA in the West Bank. This is the same PA that according to PMW's last report, gives salaries to Palestinian prisoners, among them several hundred inmates convicted of terror-related actions. The Norwegian Foreign Ministry several times has rejected such complaints. Last year in Parliament, [then Foreign Minister] Jonas Gahr Stoere said that 'this is not salaries, it is support for the prisoners' families and canteen money for the prisoners.' The Norwegian Foreign Ministry gave the same answer to NRK TV two weeks ago. But NRK was not satisfied with this answer. We asked for supplementary information from the Foreign Ministry, which we have now received. The Foreign Ministry now says that a separate aid program for Palestinian prisoners who are convicted in Israeli military court does exist."

(Video) Another Palestinian Authority TV classic

Itamar Marcus/Nan Jacques Zilberdik..
Palestinian Media Watch..
27 January '13..

Earlier this month, on Fatah's 48th anniversary, PA TV broadcast a new film about the history of the Fatah movement: "Fatah: Revolution until Victory." The filmmakers chose to open the film by expressing classic antisemitic demonization of Jews, stating that Europe "suffered a tragedy by providing refuge for the Jews." Having Jews living among them placed a great burden on Europeans:

"Faced with the Jews' schemes, Europe could not bear their character traits, monopolies, corruption, and their control and climbing up positions in government."

[PA TV, Jan. 1, 2013]

Palestinian Media Watch has documented that the PA for years has explained Zionism as a European plot to be rid of its Jews.

The film explains that this eventually led to the expulsion of the Jews from England, France, Germany, Austria, Holland, Czechoslovakia, Spain and Italy, because of European suffering from the Jews' presence. Finally, when the Balfour Declaration facilitated the establishment of "a national homeland" for the Jews, Europe supported it because it "saw it as an ideal solution to get rid of them."

(+Video) Latest libel - IDF shapes explosives like toys to target Palestinian children

Itamar Marcus/Nan Jacques Zilberdik..
Palestinian Media Watch..
08 January '13..

In an interview on PA TV News, PA Mayor Mustafa Fuqaha claimed that the Israeli army deliberately "targets children and young ones." The mayor accused the Israeli army of leaving behind explosives "shaped like pens and toys" after training exercises "to tempt children to touch them or pick them up."

Palestinian Media Watch has reported how similar libels were voiced by the PA during the PA's terror campaign (the Intifada). In 2003, PA TV viewers were told that Israelis "drop objects from jet planes that attract children to play with them and then they blow up. These are bombs and mines designed as toys."

In 2001, the official PA daily claimed that Israel had taken "a new step aimed to kill more children" by throwing "large quantities of poisoned candies in front of two schools." The paper reported on a medic who, "when he collected ten pieces of these unwrapped candies, [he] felt the rubber glove on his hand melting, in addition to experiencing breathing difficulties, strong headache, and dizziness."

Glorifying terror, inciting hatred, and erasing Israel - Fatah's Facebook

Itamar Marcus/Nan Jacques Zilberdik
Palestinian Media Watch..
07 January '13..

January 1st is the date Fatah celebrates as the anniversary of its first terror attack, which it calls “Launch Day.” Palestinian Media Watch has examined how Fatah used its Facebook page to mark its 48th anniversary.

The page glorifies violence and terror as acts of heroism, and depicts a world without Israel. The Facebook page is filled with pictures of automatic rifles and slogans venerating arms. In some pictures, young children are carrying rifles.

Other pictures show maps of “Palestine” that include the PA areas as well as all of Israel. Fatah's page glorifies Saddam Hussein and memorializes terrorist Dalal Mughrabi, who led the most lethal terror attack in Israel’s history: a bus hijacking attack that killed 37 civilians.

In addition to being PA Chairman, Mahmoud Abbas is Chairman of Fatah as well.

As part of its celebrations, Fatah posted two pictures showing young children holding automatic rifles that are almost as large as the children. One picture has the words:

“The 48th anniversary of the Launch of the Palestinian revolution"
"My mother gave birth to me to fight,
and Fatah gave me the gun.”

(Video) Hamas TV spokesman interviewed about Palestinian Media Watch

Palwatch..
28 November '12..

Journalist Suroosh Alvi from Vice magazine interviews a spokesman from Al-Aqsa TV (Hamas TV). Alvi tells the spokesman about Palestinian Media Watch, an Israeli organization that monitors channels like Al-Aqsa TV in order to expose "how radical the people in Gaza are." The spokesman responds "They also say to their people that killing a Palestinian is good. So this [is] a different way to see [things]."

Note: Palestinian Media Watch exposes incitement to hatred in order to help eliminate it. PMW welcomes the use of its findings to challenge the propagators of hate incitement, as in this video.

PMW's reports that terrorist prisoners receive PA salaries

Official PA daily: PMW "incites" against the PA

Itamar Marcus/Nan Jacques Zilberdik..
Palestinian Media Watch..
02 November '12..

The official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, accused Palestinian Media Watch of "inciting" against the PA, saying that PMW is trying to cut off the PA's sources of Western funding.

"'Palestinian Media Watch' [is] a Jewish organization that incites [against the PA] and speaks about Palestinian Authority aid to prisoners, describing it as support for terrorists, in order to stop financial support to the PA."

This was reported together with Minister of Prisoners' Affairs Issa Karake's response to PMW reports documenting that the PA pays salaries to prisoners imprisoned in Israel for terror crimes.

Responding to PMW's reports, Minister Karake has maintained that the payments to prisoners are "humanitarian welfare assistance" to the prisoners' families and children, and that this aid is "a national, humanitarian, and moral obligation being fulfilled by the PA."

On one occasion the Minister has stated that the prisoners are "lawful freedom fighters who fought for the right of their cause and for the freedom and independence of their people." On another occasion, he said that the PA "will not abandon our prisoner sons or their families, for they are fighters who resisted the occupation's oppression."

Karake made the last comment while visiting the families of the following prisoners, who are all serving life sentences in Israel for their involvement in suicide terrorists' bombings:

Ibrahim Sarahneh - an Israeli Arab resident of the Deheisheh refugee camp near Bethlehem. He drove three suicide bombers to their attacks. With his wife Irena Sarahneh, he drove a suicide bomber to his attack in Rishon LeZion in 2002 that killed two and injured many. With his brother Musa Sarahneh, he drove a female suicide bomber to a supermarket in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Kiryat HaYovel, where she killed two people. With his brother Khalil Sarahneh, he drove a suicide bomber who killed a policeman in Jerusalem in 2002.

Increased Israeli entry permits for Palestinians - Conflicting views in the PA

Itamar Marcus/Barbara Crook..
Palestinian Media Watch..
04 September '12..

Israel's decision to allow 180,000 Palestinians to enter Israel for the Muslim holiday of Eid El-Fitr has drawn different responses in the Palestinian Authority. While the official PA daily newspaper said that the move was intended to hurt the Palestinian economy, the independent Al-Quds argued that more contact should be encouraged.

Since the Palestinian Authority terror campaign (Intifada, 2000-2005), in which more than 1,000 Israelis were murdered, mostly by suicide bombings, Israel has restricted Palestinian entry into Israel. The Palestinian Authority has condemned this policy.

But due to the improved security situation, Israel granted increased access, and 180,000 Palestinians entered Israel for the Muslim holiday in late August. Rather than expressing appreciation for the increased freedom of movement, the official PA daily newspaper quoted sources that accused Israel of granting the entry permits to deliberately hurt the Palestinian economy, because Palestinians would spend their holiday money in Israel instead of in the PA.

The article in Al-Hayat Al-Jadida said that Israel "profited economically and enhanced its image in the press and internationally, as a state enjoying security and tranquility and easing [restrictions] on the [Palestinian] residents." [Aug. 23, 2012]

The independent daily Al-Quds, however, questioned the negative reaction: "If the Israeli decision had entailed the slightest bit of a security risk, Israel would not have agreed to place itself in danger merely in order to acquire what the residents of the West Bank might spend during their visit to Jerusalem and Israel."

The Al-Quds article did see ulterior motives in Israel's actions - to have direct contacts between Palestinians and Israelis in order "to convince Palestinian citizens that the Palestinian Authority is useless." The op-ed argued that this was also positive for Palestinians, and that more contact should be encouraged "to permit our people, on both sides of the fence, to make contact and to mingle in a natural manner, since this is preferable to living in a great prison that is called the West Bank - or, more precisely, the Palestinian Authority areas." Anything you can say, I can say better! The PA Ministry of Information latest book release.

Official PA terminology guide:
Instead of "terror" say "resistance"
Instead of "suicide bombing"
say "Martyrdom-seeking operation"
Instead of "Star of David" say "Six-pointed star"

Itamar Marcus/Nan Jacques Zilberdik..
Palestinian Media Watch..
19 June '12..

The Palestinian Authority Ministry of Information has published a book instructing Palestinians which words to use and calling to replace "the Israeli and American dissemination of poisoned terms." The book, which is called Terminology in Media, Culture and Politics, includes a chart with the "poisoned terms" to be replaced by Palestinian terms.

This book and the chosen terms are significant as they officially and accurately reflect PA beliefs, policies and ideologies. As Palestinian Media Watch has documented for years, when speaking to its own people, the PA adamantly denies Israel's right to exist and glorifies the murder of Israelis and Jews, including civilians, as heroic "resistance" when speaking to own its people. This terminology guide issued by the PA reiterates the official PA positions that foreign governments and the international media often don't understand, deny, or ignore.

PA denies Israel's right to exist - reflected in terminology

The PA does not recognize Israel's right to exist. Accordingly, the introduction to the PA Ministry of Information's book stresses that correct Palestinian language must be chosen in order to avoid language that recognizes Israel's existence as "natural". Using the Israeli terminology:

"turns the essence of the Zionist endeavor (i.e., Israeli statehood) from a racist, colonialist endeavor into an endeavor of self-definition and independence for the Jewish People."

Palestinians are encouraged to use terms that indicate that Israel is the result of "a racist, colonialist endeavor," and the book instructs Palestinians never to use the name "Israel" alone but instead to use the term "Israeli colonialism." To use "Israel" by itself is damaging, according to the PA, because to do so "describes Israel as a natural state."

Killing Israeli civilians is not terrorism but "resistance"

A second fundamental of PA ideology is to refuse to accept that Palestinian attacks that kill Israelis, including suicide bombings against civilians, are terror. Therefore, the PA has chosen the following terms to replace all references to terror that Israel and the world use:

Israeli termPalestinian Arab term
(Palestinian) TerrorResistance
(Palestinian) TerroristResistance member
Suicide (bombing) operationsMartyrdom-seeking operations
Palestinian violenceLegitimate resistance
Person who was killedMartyr (Shahid)
reciprocal violenceResistance response

NGO also lists as past or present funders: The French consulate, the Italian Institutions Union, the Swiss Development Agency and others

A Palestinian NGO, the Burj Luq-Luq Social Center Society organization, performed a puppet show for children in East Jerusalem to promote non-smoking. The educational message delivered by the puppets instructed children to replace cigarettes with machine guns:

Puppet: "I, and many other youth like me, think that cigarettes will help us to grow, to turn into men. Jerusalem doesn't need men who hold cigarettes. It needs men who hold machine guns, not cigarettes."

In addition to teaching children not to smoke, the puppet show glorified death and violence and educated children to see Jews as "enemies" who kill the Palestinian youth of Jerusalem:

From Palestinian Media Watch:

"We commit and promise to stand behind you, oh Mahmoud Abbas, until Judgment Day. I am returning to you, the purest land, oh land of the free. No matter how long the nights of exile, I am returning to you, oh land. From Rafah to Rosh Hanikra (northern Israel) our coast, and Beit Shean (Israeli city). Above your soil, oh my land, is a picture of Garden of Eden. From Rafah to Rosh Hanikra our coast, and Beit Shean. Above your soil, oh my land, is a picture of Garden of Eden. From Rafah to Rosh Hanikra, north and south, are the picture's borders. From Haifa (Israeli city) and Tantura to the [Jordan] valley (i.e., all of Israel). I am returning to you, the purest land, oh land of the free."

Note: The following PA officials are shown sitting in the audience: Mahmoud Abbas, PA Chairman, Sultan Abu Al-Einein, Fatah Central Committee, Hanan Ashrawi, PLO Executive Committee, Abbas Zaki, Fatah Central Committee, Al-Tayeb Abd Al-Rahim, President's office Sec. Gen., Yasser Abd Rabbo, PLO Sec. Gen., Ahmad Tibi, Israeli Arab Member of Israeli Parliament.

This video originally aired on Feb. 27, 2011 (Palestinian TV (Fatah) and was rebroadcast twice in May, once in July, 12 times in September, four times in October, once in December, once in January 2012, twice in February, once in April, and on May 12, 2012.

Any questions as to the Palestinian Authority's end game? And yes, MK Ahmad Tibi's presence has been duly noted.

PMW back up, plus YouTube's problematic practices (JPost op-ed)

Elder of Ziyon
19 December '10

It looks like PalWatch is back up on YouTube...thanks for everyone who helped by complaining to YouTube! (h/t Stablehand)

Here is an op-ed in Monday's JPost by Andre Oboler about the recent suspension of Palestinian Media Watch's YouTube channel before it was reinstated:

A few months ago, efforts were made to shut down the YouTube presence of the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI). The institute provides the English-speaking world with insight into the Mideast media. Some of the exposure is not welcome by those who say one thing in English to a Western audience and another thing at home.

The MEMRI debacle seems to have been resolved, but YouTube is now going after Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) which fulfills a similar role, focused exclusively on the Palestinian media.

PMW monitors, translates and shares examples of incitement. It was PMW that exposed the use of a Mickey Mouse character inciting hate and violence on the Hamas TV children’s show “The Pioneers of Tomorrow.”

That story created shock waves around the world, leading to discussions in the Western mainstream media and at the UN of the link between incitement in the media and terrorism.

PMW’s violation appears to be that it was posting “hate material.”

There is no doubt that it was. However, like MEMRI, that material was not shared for the purpose of incitement, but to expose and counter the spread of hate. Some commentators have speculated that it is not the hate against Jews, Israelis and Americans – as shown in MEMRI and PMW videos – that is the problem, but rather the fact that the videos might cause a backlash against those promoting such hate.
