The poet Hava Pinchas-Cohen this week wondered out loud what many people are thinking, given the frequent news about murderous terrorist attacks in our country: "I'm waiting to hear one Muslim friend -- just one -- explain why the most important holiday in Islam, Ramadan, is good timing for murder and terrorist attacks. What kind of religious ecstasy exists after they hear shots and see blood spilled in a car or on the road or in the street or in a field? What does the Muslim God look like?"

Here's one possible answer: These people have heard plenty of lessons and preaching and indoctrination, to the point where murdering "the infidels" becomes only a matter of time for them, not to mention their obligation as believers. And there is no better time that the days of fasting and introspection to arouse the believer on his way to saving his soul, salvation to be acquired through murdering the "infidels."

You don't need to look as far away as the mosques of Syria, Iraq, and Tunisia. Just stop by a Friday sermon on the Temple Mount and hear a lesson given by the vaunted preacher, the mover of mountains, Sheikh Khaled al-Mughrabi, who teaches at Al-Aqsa mosque twice a week. After you hear his sermon (which can be seen on the Palestinian Media Watch website), you too will want to go into the kitchen and turn the cutlery into killing tools with which you will save Jews from their own lives.

Indeed, al-Mughrabi explains, "The Children of Israel have more than one god … 34 gods. … If you look at history you'll see that the number 11 is sacred to Jews [and 666] … representing Satan. Everything they wish to happen, or that they want to do and succeed at, they try to make happen on the 11th of the month. … Therefore, notice the attacks on America [9/11]. … The evidence discovered afterward points to the fact that the Jews were behind the attack."

From there, the scholar moves on to a psycho-cultural analysis of the Jews and their religion: "I will show you the ways of Satan, through which he deceives the Children of Israel. ... The first way is the promise of eternal life. ... The American film industry is owned by the Children of Israel. … You can see films, all of which are about vampires. … If you killed a human being and drank his blood in a certain way, you would attain eternal life. Why did Satan put this in their minds? To cause them to spill each other's blood. One will kill the other and drink his blood, and thus attain eternal life."

While both Livni and Herzog seem to have an unlimited amounts of words to critique the current government's failure to arrive at a workable framework for "Peace" in this neighborhood, they tend to go silent when ignoring the 'elephant in the room'. Palestinian Imam and Hamas TV Host Justifies Hitler: The Jews Spread Corruption Everywhere



During a December 28, 2014 Hamas TV show, Palestinian imam Sheik Iyad Abu Funun said: "If the Jews had been a respectable, well-bred people,... [Hitler] would not have done those things to them. ... Corruption is deeply rooted in that nation." Abu Funun, who in the past was sentenced to 29 years in an Israeli prison, was released in the 2011 Shalit prisoner swap. He was later rearrested after resuming his militant activity and expelled from Bethlehem to Gaza for ten years. Abu Funun delivers sermons in a Gaza mosque and recently began to moderate a show on the Hamas-owned Al-Aqsa TV channel, where he made the current statements.

At the special briefing on incitement in the Palestinian Authority (Sunday, 2 December 2012),Strategic Affairs Minister Moshe Yaalon said,

"As long as the Palestinian Authority educates its people toward hatred, and non-recognition, of Israel, there will not be peace. They are sending deep messages and this education is being absorbed by all sections of the populace, especially the younger generation."

Journalist Suroosh Alvi from Vice magazine interviews a spokesman from Al-Aqsa TV (Hamas TV). Alvi tells the spokesman about Palestinian Media Watch, an Israeli organization that monitors channels like Al-Aqsa TV in order to expose "how radical the people in Gaza are." The spokesman responds "They also say to their people that killing a Palestinian is good. So this [is] a different way to see [things]."



Note: Palestinian Media Watch exposes incitement to hatred in order to help eliminate it. PMW welcomes the use of its findings to challenge the propagators of hate incitement, as in this video.

What are the beliefs of the terrorist group Hamas and how likely is it any peace can be negotiated with Hamas? Hamas is a part of the Muslim Brotherhood, and the advent of an MB government in Egypt–with which American officials at the level of the Secretaries of Defense and State are now dealing happily–may lead some analysts to suggest that we, and Israel, should overcome our refusal to deal with Hamas.

So we can be grateful that Hamas supplied us with a useful reminder of who it is and what it believes. The Arab news site Maan today reports that Hamas has denounced the visit to Auschwitz of a Palestinian Authority official named Ziad al-Bandak, who is an aide to PA president Mahmoud Abbas.

“It was an unjustified and unhelpful visit that served only the Zionist occupation,” said Fawzi Barhoum, a spokesman for Hamas….Barhoum further called Bandak’s visit to Auschwitz, a camp where the Nazis killed 1.5 million people, most of them Jews but also other Polish citizens, during World War Two, as “a marketing of a false Zionist alleged tragedy.”

The Hamas Charter, the group’s constitutional or founding document, is a vicious anti-Semitic screed, but once in a while it is suggested that that’s an old document that does not really represent the organization’s views any more. That’s false, as this incident shows: hatred of Jews, including Holocaust denial, remains central to the Hamas belief system. It is a terrorist group, not a potential negotiating partner. Its hold on Gaza must be ended, not accommodated.

All states use education as a medium to encourage responsible behavior in their children, at least in part to develop a law-abiding, civic-minded citizenry. Authoritarian regimes have a history of distorting this trust, often turning schools into places of indoctrination for a state or religious ideology. The Palestinians have, for some time now, created an educational system exemplifying this indoctrinational approach: Their textbooks deny Jewish and Israeli legitimacy within historic Palestine, demonize Jews and Israelis, discourage compromise or negotiated peace, and glorify violent struggle to achieve what are often termed "Palestinian aspirations." Since coming to power through elections in early 2006 and following its military coup in Gaza in June 2007, Hamas has continued this path of indoctrination, utilizing its popular children's website, Al-Fateh.

Formal Education in Gaza

After a series of clashes, predating Hamas's parliamentary win in 2006 but intensifying thereafter, Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip in a swift but brutal campaign, which lasted little more than a week (June 7-15, 2007).[1] Hamas now controls the Gaza Strip, and the Palestinian Authority (PA) retains almost no standing, except perhaps in the field of education: All the schools in the strip—the very small number of private schools, the public schools, and those run by the United Nations Works and Refugee Agency (UNRWA)—follow the official PA school curriculum and use the corresponding textbooks.

This may be surprising in view of the cardinal importance Hamas attributes to the education of children and youth as a means of achieving its ideological and political goals. Article 15 of the Hamas charter states:

It is necessary that scientists, educators, and teachers, information and media people, as well as the educated masses, especially the youth and sheikhs of the Islamic movements, should take part in the operation of awakening. It is important that basic changes be made in school curriculum to cleanse it of the traces of ideological invasion that affected it as a result of the Orientalists and missionaries who infiltrated the region following the defeat of the Crusaders at the hands of Salah al Din (Saladin).[2]

Despite this, Hamas has yet to introduce its own school curriculum. Perhaps this is due in part to a concern for Palestinian unity; perhaps it is merely a desire to avoid the heavy expense such revisions would necessitate. Most likely this results from Hamas's recognition that continued implementation of the official PA curriculum is the only way currently that allows internationally recognized matriculation examinations to proceed and for diplomas to be awarded. In 2009 for example, practical steps were taken by Hamas to ensure that the examinations would take place at exactly the same time in both Gaza and the West Bank.[3]
