Those Arab-on-Arab killing fields are expanding. Israel is next door.

..Israelis living close to our northern border, the one that separates us from Bashar Al-Assad's failed Syrian state, have grown increasingly concerned about somehow becoming caught up in the Arab-on-Arab nightmare.

How bad is the war situation in Syria? Measured by numbers, the picture varies widely, but it's utterly grotesque on any view. Here are some indicators to provide proportion [source]:

 - Deaths on all sides since heavy fighting started in March 2011: between 35,000 and 49,600. The website Syrian Martyrs says the number is 40,155 as of November 5, 2012

 - More than 500 children had been killed by February 2012. By last month, the Syrian group SOHR said it had risen to 2,300

 - A further 400 children had been arrested and tortured in Syrian prisons

 - Over 600 detainees and political prisoners have died under torture

Against that background, Israelis living close to our northern border, the one that separates us from Bashar Al-Assad's failed Syrian state, have grown increasingly concerned about somehow becoming caught up in the Arab-on-Arab nightmare.

This morning (Thursday), the concern went up a notch.
