Palestinian Arab ass being saved, once more, by concerned Israelis

...The self-incriminating silence of the thriving multi-billion dollar children's rights industry on what's being done to the Palestinian Arab children by their own ruling clique is an articulate expression of their priorities and of the ideology motivating many of the prime movers of those charities and NGOs. It's a scandal that ought to get more attention than, say, a plagiarized paragraph in a politician's wife's speech. But it gets close to none.

Thanks to Aussie Dave over at Israellycool, we just watched a brief video clip that, on its face, is about Israeli police confiscating Palestinian Arab property. It originates with Corey Gil-Shuster, who interviews subjects for his Ask an Israeli/Ask a Palestinian video project and who came across the Hebrew-only source on an Israeli channel for animal lovers.

In dry terms, it's a clip filmed recently by someone from Israel Police that graphically shows the mistreatment of a neglected, very badly-lacerated donkey. And the frightened, angry, frustrated boy in charge of the animal. And the animal being saved from a slow and awful death through the intervention of grown-ups wearing Star of David symbols on their uniforms.

Dave quotes Corey noting the significance of what's being shown, beyond the cruelty and the animal, and touching on truths that are central to the generations-long Arab/Israel conflict. Paraphrasing Corey,

An Arab child of 11 from the West Bank, despatched into Israel on his own to work illegally, almost certainly by his hard-scrabble family. He could have been hurt or killed. And it's certainly illegal to do this to a child of his age.

Indications, based on what we see the child do once the police move, that he gets beaten at home and will likely be beaten some more for losing the donkey to the Zionists.

And "this video will end up being edited to show that Israelis steal donkeys from Palestinian children".

Dave adds that "it shows the compassion of the Israeli police officers towards this illegal entrant into Israel, even though he has abused a donkey and is not cooperating with them". He's of course right. He could have also mentioned their admirable patience and forbearance.

In the spring of 1212, a young shepherd boy named Nicholas of Cologne preached that he had received inspiration to lead children on a crusade to free the Holy Land from Muslim infidels. Flocks of young people joined him in his trek south to the Mediterranean coast to lead what would be known as the Children’s Crusade. Thousands died of starvation along the way and those that set sail for the Holy Land were diverted to Egypt and sold into slavery.

But in the later lore of Western Europe, the Children’s Crusade attained a romantic aura as history’s first youth movement. Even if utterly misguided, these were ideologically driven youngsters, acting out of the purity of their innocent souls.

A similar dynamic is playing itself out now in Palestinian society. The iconography of Palestinian resistance features two contrasting images. The first is the muscle-bound fighter with ski-mask brandishing an assault rifle. He represents the Palestinian aspiration for dominance and power. But he requires a contrasting image alongside his own. Palestinian fighters have actually accomplished very little. And so, a complementary image must be adopted that is more in line with reality: that of the youth with slingshot. The image is an appropriation of the figure of David against Goliath. It champions not muscle, but rather the embodiment of the Palestinian spirit in a younger, weaker body. It implicitly champions the strength of spirit against overwhelming odds.

In previous times, the ultimate symbol of the Palestinian anti-hero was the blind and crippled Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmad Yassin. US president Franklin Delano Roosevelt was crippled by polio and could not walk during the entire length of his twelve-year presidency. And yet, there are almost no photographs of him in a wheelchair. Roosevelt feared that such a picture would tarnish his image as a strong leader. By contrast, the ubiquitous images of Sheikh Yassin staring wildly while pushed in his wheelchair represented the perfect embodiment of the Palestinian struggle of the spirit against overwhelming odds.

During Operation Protective Edge, the image of the muscle-bound masked fighter was paramount, as he dodged through tunnels and fired off rockets. But that struggle was a catastrophe for the Palestinians. And so now, the pendulum of Palestinian iconography has swung in the other direction, and today, it celebrates the struggle of the spirit. Its new poster-boy is just that: a boy.

When a 14-year-old Palestinian plunges a knife into a Jewish neck it’s the perfect murder. No adult has acted and so one is really culpable. A romantic aura sets in claiming that children act out of honesty and innocence. Even if unforgivable, the child’s action is seen as “natural.” And when photographs detail his arrest, it is truly hard to tell the victim from the criminal.

...Not for the first time, we ask: where is UNICEF? Or Save the Children, or Terre des Hommes, or the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement or even the dishonorable Amnesty International (on whom we have not yet entirely given up hope)? Or the other well-funded, high-profile public interest organizations that purport to care for the welfare of children but that take so little interest in the unfolding tragedy of the children of the Palestinian Arabs and the terror-obsessed jihadists cheating them of their future?

Is there a name for the psychological condition that holds an entire society in its grip, causing it to invest its children in a death cult that will certainly lead to the deaths of many of those children, and to the justification of those deaths on the grounds that the enemy's children are harmed, injured and/or killed?

In the past five days alone:

A Palestinian teen girl attempted to stab Israeli troops at Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate on Tuesday morning, police said. The suspect, 16, was arrested after pulling a knife on border guards when they asked to search her, police said. There were no Israeli injuries reported. “The police reacted quickly, pushed her away and subdued her,” a police spokesperson said. Police said the teenager, a student, had concealed the knife in her backpack. When police asked to search her bag, she pulled the knife “and tried to stab the policemen,” police said. [Source]

[Also today, a] Palestinian teenage girl armed with a knife was detained outside the West Bank settlement of Carmei Tzur. The girl, said to be around 13, was arrested by the security guard at the entrance of the settlement in the Etzion bloc. [Source]

An 11-year-old Jewish boy was stabbed and wounded Monday [February 8, 2016] in an attack in the central Israeli town of Ramle. The attacker fled the scene, apparently toward the Jawaresh neighborhood of the city. The boy was hospitalized with moderate injuries, the Magen David Adom emergency service said. The child said that the assailant was an Arab. A 17-year-old Arab youth was arrested a short time later on suspicion of carrying out the attack. [Source]

[A] guard at the bus station in [Ramle] was lightly injured when he was stabbed by two 13-year-old girls in a nationalistic attack [on Thursday, February 4, 2016]. One of the girls’ mothers subsequently apologized for her daughter’s action. [Source] ...Central District spokesman Ch.-Supt. Ami Ben-David said that the two teens approached the metal detector at the entrance to the station around 10:30 Thursday morning, at which point the security guard asked them to show him identification. At that point the two girls pulled knives and stabbed the guard, lightly wounding him in the hand and leg, Ben-David said... One of the two girls was carrying a school backpack and a picture taken at the scene by a police photographer showed the contents of the bag scattered on the pavement, including schoolwork, a calculator, a juice bag and two knives. There's quite a collection out there of human rights groups that claim to be working for the protection of Palestinian Arab children.

Last year, at the beginning of the Gaza conflict, we posted an image of Golda Meir with the most famous quotation attributed to her: “Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us.”

With all the evidence of Palestinian indoctrination of children to hate Israelis, we felt that her message was as timely as ever. After all, both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority regularly use their own media to glorify acts of terrorism. Last year this contributed to an all-out war while this year, we see almost daily attacks on innocent Jewish men, women, and children, often times by young Palestinians.

Quite a few of these acts have resulted in the deaths of the attackers by Israelis defending themselves. When interviewed, the parents of many of these would-be killers have expressed pride that their children died while trying to kill Jews.

So doesn’t it seem reasonable to assert that the Palestinian hatred of Jews may be stronger than the love of even their own children?

So we were shocked when we received a message from Facebook that said our picture of Golda had been removed because it violated Facebook’s community standards.

Yes, that’s right. According to Facebook, our picture of Golda Meir would lead to a “genuine risk of physical harm or direct threats to public safety.”

Of course, a quick Facebook search finds that the group “Death to America and Israel” is still very much alive, posting all sorts of garbage.

Some background to what's happening:

We posted earlier today (Tuesday) about the fact that three of today's crop of Arab-on-Israeli stabbing attacks were done by women.

Earlier still, this morning, we noted that yet again a knifing attacker turns out to be a child of sixteen (he was shot dead in the attempt).

Last Thursday, we wrote about how many of the "martyrs" and assorted other stabbers are children of 15, 14, 13, 12 and 11.

Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the government that is supposed to look after these women and children, praises their savagery and their deaths to the skies. As we wrote here an hour ago, this venal, power-drunk kleptocrat says he blesses "every drop of blood... spilled for Jerusalem". It's "clean and pure blood, blood spilled for Allah", this thug in a suit says to his people - in Arabic, but never in English. "Every martyr (the Arabic word is shahid) will reach paradise, and everyone wounded will be rewarded by Allah..."

The depravity of the society over which this awful person presides was on display last week in another excellent Palestinian Media Watch analysis. It focuses on a speech made by the PA government's Minister for Women's Affairs, Haifa Al-Agha. As we review the barbarism this woman is busy marketing to her public, keep in mind (as Wikipedia discloses) that this disturbed politician is a graduate of Oklahoma State University where she earned a PhD in Educational Studies in 1991. And though she serves the Fatah-controlled "moderate" PA today, there was a time when she was a Hamas functionary, a minister in its Gaza-centred Islamist regime.

When child abuse is a national mission

...We know. There are readers who believe there are sober, serious voices among the Palestinian Arabs calling for tolerance, compromise, an end to acts of violence and terror, a better life for their own sons and daughters. Trouble is, as much as we want to hear those voices, they are impossible to find. Instead, the length and breadth of their society is infected with messages of hatred, the fabrication of blood libels to ensure even more acts of hatred, a cacophony of perverse calls for more killing, more revenge, more "heroism" of the sort that yesterday's two boys with knives embody.

The image above appeared in a blog post of ours called "18-Oct-15: Being aware of our neighbours' passion for terror is the first step" some weeks ago in response to the orchestrated campaign of face-to-face Arab-on-Israeli violence going on all around us.

Since then, there have been dozens more stabbings, shootings and car-rammings. Yesterday (Tuesday), there were multiple such attacks. But one of them is in a class of its own. It's the subject of this post.

As we wrote yesterday ["10-Nov-15: Arab teens and their knives: today's latest Jerusalem stabbing attack"]:

The photo [in that post] indicates at least one of the attackers is young - to our eyes, 15 or even less. The second attacker is not shown; he was evidently shot and is probably not in good shape. We don't know names, or where they live, or the condition of the one shot... [T]he Light Rail security guard, who was moderately wounded in the attack, managed to fire his weapon toward the two attackers, wounding one according to the police. He received emergency treatment at at the scene and then rushed to Jerusalem's Shaarei Zedek Medical Center. He is about 25, and has stab wounds to the upper body.

A life changing experience for the guard who, thankfully, is said to be doing well today at Shaarei Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. And the attackers? It may have changed their lives too. Or not.

Children and what a soulless society can do to them

...No immediate word on how firmly the ANC stands behind children with daggers or the adults who put them there. Or whether they subscribe, as Hamas does, to the uplifting value of viciously murdering unarmed Jews and other Israelis as part of its efforts to “free Al-Aqsa”.

Hamas, which more closely resembles a death cult than a functioning government, organized a rally this past Friday night in Rafah, Gaza Strip. If a picture is worth a thousand words, these representative photos below, published originally in Arabic-language channels and not (yet) syndicated by the major news agency names, sum up the tragedy of the Palestinian Arabs.

They also highlight the hypocrisy of those who ignore the evidence in front of their faces in the rush to embrace the Islamists and their "struggle" to "resist". So does the utter silence emanating from the many child-protection agencies around the world who published heart-rending images of under-nourished or war-impacted or genitally-mutilated children (as they should) but will not touch the rampant, highly public child abuse that is a daily reality in the world of the jihadists, and in particular the dark netherworld of Hamas.

Bear in mind as you glance at them what's going on in the late Nelson Mandela's homeland the last few days:

When destroying their own children's lives may even be the best option in their eyes

...The nausea-inducing Palestinian Arab leadership's disregard of the welfare of their own people's children is hardly a new phenomenon. Most people have heard of the famous epigram attributed to the late prime minister of Israel, Golda Meir, who said to the National Press Club in Washington nearly sixty years ago: Peace will come only when the Arabs love their children more than they hate ours. Too true then, even more strikingly true today. So many decades; so little advancement.

Khaled Abu Toameh, writing for the Gatestone Institute today, reviews the unsatisfied list of demands the jihadists of Hamas have made in the three months since the latest phase of their ongoing war with Israel segued into a ceasefire, explains why they are not going to get what they want, and predicts a bad outcome:

The only option Hamas faces, therefore, is to attack Israel again as a way of ridding itself of the severe crisis in the Gaza Strip and the growing frustration among Palestinians living there. Hamas's biggest fear is that this frustration will be translated into disillusionment with its regime. That is why Hamas is now seeking to direct the anger on the Palestinian street toward Israel...

Hamas is now talking about an imminent "explosion" against Israel if the promises to rebuild Gaza are not fulfilled. Some Hamas representatives even have the audacity to hold Israel fully responsible for hindering the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip...

Hamas's threats against Israel should be taken seriously, especially in light of reports that the movement is continuing to prepare for another war. Hamas not only continues to dig tunnels under the border with Israel [as we wrote here: "23-Nov-14: Gaza's wealth and where it is - and is not - going"]; it has also been test-firing rockets into the Mediterranean Sea...

Hamas does not have much left to lose in another military confrontation with Israel. The killing of a few hundred more Palestinians in the Gaza Strip will allow Hamas to shift attention from its failure to rebuild the Gaza Strip to blaming Israel for "waging another war" on the Palestinians...

Hamas is also hoping that another war will further increase anti-Israel sentiment around the world and earn the Palestinians even more sympathy.

Hamas continues to funnel jihad-centric hatred into the heads, hearts and blood stream of Gaza's children ensuring a steady stream of willing cannon fodder. Of all the options open to the Gazan regime, the one that focuses on the well-being, safety and health of their people, and especially their children, comes stone, motherless last. Bottom of the list. Not worthy of serious consideration.

What children and youths are good for

...Universal Children's Day took place just two days ago, on November 20. The annual event might have been the perfect opportunity to shine a bright light on the programming, the brain-washing, the hate-focused preaching, the terror-friendly education that are all indispensable ingredients in the process of producing terrorist youths. But of course they were not.

The children are always innocent.
But what of the people who educate
and equip them?

We posted here some weeks back ["07-Nov-14: In reporting terror, what the perpetrators and their victims are called is part of the war"] about the practice in some parts of the media to use descriptive words like "youth" and "man" in highly subjective ways. A pedestrian mowed down by a murder-minded Arab in Jerusalem is called a "17-year-old man"; the victim was, of course, an Israeli. Meanwhile, a "20-year-old youth" attacked police; he is, of course, a Palestinian Arab. There are other instances of this tendentious form of news reporting in that post. They lead us to say (as we did) that

those of us deeply irritated by the way news editors often spin an entire report via the judicious choice of specific words can't help suspecting there might be a little something on display here about agenda-driven reporting and editing.

When the terrorists say children are their main concern

Not for the first time, we are left to wonder aloud why UNICEF, Save the Children, Amnesty, Terre des Hommes, International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and so many other well-funded, high-profile public interest organizations are taking so little interest in this unfolding tragedy. It's happening right under their noses.

Universal Children's Day takes place on November 20, less than three weeks from today.

The annual event was initiated by the UN General Assembly in 1954 as a way of encouraging states to "to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children" and similar blah blah. But also "to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world's children" which is a worthy and concrete goal.

Even the most cursory look at things that are done to children in many parts of the world serves to persuade of the need to take their welfare very seriously. Think of the millions of children cheated of education and forced into child labour, slavery, prostitution and pornography. And then there's the recruitment and training of child soldiers, a matter that has occupied us here on this blog often.

The UN adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child on November 20, 1958 and then the Convention on the Rights of the Child exactly 31 years later, on November 20, 1989. That convention is going to be 25 years old later this month. Pretty soon now the formalities, the issue of new postage stamps and theme posters and similar actions by civil servants are going to render the occasion even more meaningless than it probably is already. So allow us please to share a handful of observations about children in the Palestinian Arab world.

First some notes from a brief analysis triggered by the wave of violence that is currently on view here in Jerusalem from where we produce this blog. The Israeli Arab journalist and analyst, Khaled Abu Toameh ["Palestinians:Stop the Children's Intifada!", October 29, 2014] writes:

Turning An Absolutely Blind Eye to Human Rights Abuse and the Children's Intifada

...The adult activists who send and encourage children to take part in violence should be held accountable, not only by Israeli authorities, but also by their own people and international human rights organizations. If these adults want an intifada, they should be the first to go out and confront Israeli policemen and soldiers. The time has come for the international community and media to pay attention to their disturbing conduct and demand that Palestinian groups stop hiding behind children.

Hamas, Fatah and other Palestinian groups are using children from east Jerusalem and the West Bank in what appears to be a new intifada against Israel.

Nearly half of the Palestinians arrested by Jerusalem Police over the past few months are minors. Some of them are as young as nine.

These children are being sent to throw stones and firebombs, and launch fireworks at policemen and IDF soldiers, as well as at Israeli civilians and vehicles, including buses and the light rail in Jerusalem.

The exploitation of children in the fight against Israel has attracted little attention from the international community and media. Human rights groups and United Nations institutions have chosen to turn a blind eye to these human rights abuses.

Instead of condemning those who exploit the children and dispatch them to confront policemen and soldiers, these groups and institutions are busy denouncing Israel for targeting minors.

Most of the children's attacks occur after school, so they are not deprived of education. But sadly, some of the Palestinian minors get killed or wounded in clashes with Israeli security forces.

Orwa Hammad, a 14-year-old Palestinian-American boy from the village of Silwad near Ramallah, was shot dead by IDF soldiers last week. The IDF says he was spotted preparing to hurl a firebomb at Israeli vehicles.

The recruitment and usage of Palestinian child soldiers

...Those of us who have children (and even those that don’t) shudder at the horror of a child being killed. But the burning border patrolman in the photo (below) also has parents, probably a wife and children of his own. The relevant question is “what is the matter with Palestinian Arab society that it approves of its children becoming murderers, even encourages them to do so?”

Recently, several Arab teenagers were shot fatally by Israeli security forces. Here is one of them, Orwah Hamad, 14:

He was shot in the head with live ammunition. How could we do such a thing to a child?

There is an answer to this question. Hamad was holding a burning Molotov cocktail when he was shot, a gasoline bomb which can burn people to death. It is as deadly a weapon at short range as a gun. Here is what Hamad was trying to accomplish (the picture is from a 2011 incident in Jerusalem):

So what is the appropriate response to a child aiming a deadly weapon? The target of the firebomb would be as dead (or burned badly enough to wish he was) regardless of the age of the perpetrator.

Self-defense is an absolute right, whether it is applied to people (even policemen and soldiers have it!) or to nations. Judaism does not ask us to turn the other cheek or suffer violence rather than do it; if there is no alternative, it requires us to kill those who are trying to kill us, even if they are only 14.

Those of us who have children (and even those that don’t) shudder at the horror of a child being killed. But the burning border patrolman in the photo above also has parents, probably a wife and children of his own.

...And, yes, Dr. Ashrawi, animals do have more feelings for their children than the people who use their children as weapons do.

Finding yourself in a war waged against a regular society by terrorists is, more and more, something that people who never saw it coming find they have to learn to comprehend and live with.

If only the news-reporting media helped us all make sense of it - but the reality is the people who package and deliver the news are often not well-equipped themselves to analyze and interpret it for the rest of us.

More than six years ago, in the pages of FrontPageMagazine, Frimet Roth wrote a critical expose of where the Palestinian Arab people's political leaders stand on the subject of the murder of children - their own and ours. Along the way, she quotes a leading Palestinian Arab political insider, Hanan Daoud Khalil Ashrawi, whose ability to make well-articulated statements totally at odds with reality has served her career well. It's arguable, we think, that Ashrawi gets credit for bringing certain Western audiences to a degree of ambivalence and even understanding of terrorist savagery via the rhetoric of peace-making. That's no small achievement.

The cynical manipulation of children's lives by Hamas, Fatah and the other terror practitioners in the Palestinian Arab constellation has, tragically, continued and expanded in the years since then. By now, that reality has become well-documented and its methodology and consequences (to those who want to see) clear.

Growing numbers of voices inside the Palestinian Arab death cult have ceased denying it. On the contrary, it's a source of pride for them:

Dealing with a society that praises itself for turning its children into human bombs

...If, by chance, there are some civilized critics of Israel's various actions and policies who are as outraged as we are by the sickening sight of children being shown how to kill innocent civilians across the other side of the fence, then let them speak out as vociferously as they do when they blame Israel for this or another "war crime" or "atrocity". If they don't, why not? Who is going to save these children? It certainly is not going to be Hamas and their co-conspirators.

This is not an analysis of today's news about Hamas. The ghoulish industry of death the Islamists have assembled since slaughtering their Fatah opponents and taking control of the Gaza Strip in 2007 is well-known to anyone willing to peer into the cesspool.

No, this is a posting about those many polite international organizations, those major governments of Europe and the Americas, those global humanitarians, those states-people and moral leaders who will again today, as they have till now, avert their gaze from the obvious child abuse on a huge scale and - in the most genteel of fashions - proceed to ignore the self-cultivated barbarism that has become daily life in places like Gaza.

No self-respecting observer can claim to be unaware that the leadership cadre of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad are deliberately establishing a death cult. The reports are explicit; the photographic evidence is well-publicized and ubiquitous; the savages have never made a secret of the sickening abuse of children in which they engage. On the contrary, they want everyone to know. And so do we.

The Palestinian Authority and State-sponsored child abuse

In 2004, the Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers (CSUCS) released a "global report" on the use of children in militaries around the world. Some of the findings, as you can imagine, were devastating - not least in the Palestinian territories.

There were, at the very least, nine documented suicide attacks involving Palestinian minors between October 2000 and March 2004. The report stated that while, "there was no evidence of systematic recruitment of children by Palestinian armed groups... children are used as messengers and couriers, and in some cases as fighters and suicide bombers in attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians."

CSUCS of course, is an organisation founded by groups that are hardly Zionist in their outlook, so the condemnation of such abuse of children would no doubt have been a blow to the Palestinians. The effect of the report was perhaps felt by the groups involved, which included the 'partner for peace' Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

By the 2008 update, the CSUCS was able to report that, "No under-18s were known to have participated in suicide bombings from late 2004 to November 2007," though this was more likely precipitated by the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in 2005.

But while the use of children on the front line has rescinded in recent years, young people, very young people in the Palestinian territories are still being used in the propaganda war against Israel - a fight that is being subsidised by the Western taxpayer.

Today, it was shown how a young girl, probably no more than 10 years old, was forced to recite a hateful and heartbreaking poem on Palestinian Authority television. The TV station of course, is funded by the general budget of the Palestinian Authority which benefits from a pool of money into which mainly Western governments pledged over $7.7bn towards in 2007. This also included funds for Gaza. Recently, the European Union also announced that it would released hundreds of millions more in euros to the PA.

Raising an entire generation on glorification of suicide bombers, jihad and terrorism.

More disturbing is that only a few of the dozens of Western-funded human rights organizations that operate in the Gaza Strip have raised their voices against Hamas's abuse of children. Even the United Nations Children's Fund [UNICEF], which was created to work for children's rights, their survival, development and protection, has yet to condemn Hamas for recruiting school children to its military apparatus.

Thousands of Palestinian schoolchildren have been receiving military training in the Gaza Strip to prepare them for jihad against Israel.

According to Mohamed Siam, a senior official with the Hamas-run ministry, some 9,000 high school children have already joined 36 camps throughout the Gaza Strip and are being taught how to use various types of weapons and handle explosives. Hamas says that the purpose of the camps is to prepare Palestinian children, both militarily and psychologically, for the "liberation of Palestine, from the Jordan] river to the [Mediterranean] sea," in other words, all of Israel.

How can anyone talk about the two-state solution when thousands of Palestinian children are being trained to use weapons and explosives to replace Israel with an Islamic state? Does Mahmoud Abbas really believe that these schoolchildren will ever accept his strategy of peace with Israel? These are questions the West needs to ask itself before once again pressing for a two-state solution.

The training is being held under the supervision of the Hamas government's Ministry of Education, and the training camps have been named Al-Futuwwa [spiritual chivalry]. According to Wikipedia, Al-Futuwwa was the name of the Hitler-Jugend [Hitler Youth] style of pan-Arab fascistic and nationalistic youth movement that existed in Iraq in the 1930s and 1940s. In 1938, the Al-Futuwwa youth organization sent a delegate to the Nuremberg Nazi party rally, and in turn hosted the Hitler Youth leader Baldur von Schirach. In 1941, the fascistic pan-Arab Al-Muthanna Club and its Al-Futuwwa movement participated in the Farhud attack on Baghdad's Jewish community.

When it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the media always seem willing to report and comment extensively - so much so that one could be tempted to describe the coverage as disproportionate. However, some ten years ago, at the beginning of the so-called Al Aqsa Intifada, it became clear that there are quite a few subjects that are on the "don't do" list of the international mainstream media.

It is in part due to this rather systematic exclusion of some subjects, that there is a considerable gap between what most Israelis know about the Middle East and what global audiences are being told about the region. Particularly in the Western media, more or less well-meaning commentators regularly admonish Israelis not to be so "paranoid" and to realize that with a bit of goodwill from their side, the Middle East would be transformed into a model of peaceful coexistence.

One reason why this advice does not seem convincing to Israeli audiences is because they tend to be much more aware of the open Jew-hatred and incitement that permeates the public discourse in the Arab and Muslim world. An utterly dispiriting example of this incitement has recently attracted some attention when a lot of blogs linked to a chillingly sleek YouTube clip that shows a group of cute kids putting on a polished musical performance about the desirability of being martyred for Palestine. With a catchy tune, they tell other kids that without Palestine, childhood isn't worth much.

Most of the posts that featured the clip described the song as a "new hit", but the original report about this video was already published a year ago on the web site of The Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT). Under the title "'Birds of Paradise' - Martyrdom Recruitment as Children's Entertainment", the report notes that there are "dozens of editions and edits of the video, ranging from Arab parents having their children parrot the lyrics to Jihadists using it as background music in terrorist videos."




A Saudi journalist is quoted as expressing concern about the enormous popularity of the song, and the IPT report also points out that the media company, "Birds of Paradise", that produced the clip has published similar material. IPT argues that the song should therefore be seen as part of "a new wave in Jihadist youth indoctrination. It is far more professional, better edited, and presented in a much more kid-friendly style than previous Jihadist children's programming. The themes are easily digestible even for toddlers. Child actors portray Israeli soldiers, all wearing yarmulkes, who ruthlessly gun down other children shown playing and dancing. Minutes later, the kids exact revenge and kill the soldiers. Violence is not only the answer for children, but it is framed in a cute, kid-friendly way."

Precisely because it is so appalling to see this kind of "kid-friendly" indoctrination, reports like this are usually dismissed in "politically correct" circles as unrepresentative or exaggerated, and therefore not really newsworthy. However, the fact of the matter is that by now there is ample documentation of Islamist efforts to indoctrinate children with jihadist ideology.

New hit song for Palestinian children: When we die as martyrs

'Birds of Paradise' produces song in which children welcome death to regain Palestine.

"She added that the group represents a new wave in Jihadist youth indoctrination, as it is child-friendly, as opposed to previous Jihadist programs."

An Arabic children's choir has been racking up views all over the world with the new YouTube hit "when we die as martyrs, we will go to heaven."



The song was apparently recorded by the Jordanian-owned production company and television channel "birds of Paradise."

According to The Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT), one of the world's most comprehensive data centers on radical Islamic terrorist groups, the song is a hit on Arabic and worldwide websites and the children's choir performing it fast is becoming one of the most popular children's groups in the Arab world.
