Surprise! Palestinian Officials Continue to Promote Antisemitic Blood Libel - by Sean Durns

When it comes to antisemitism, what’s old is new or newly used again—from leaders of the Third Reich to leaders of the Palestinian Authority.

Officials of the Palestinian Authority (PA) and its ruling Fatah party are falsely claiming that Israel steals body parts from dead terrorists.

According to Palestinian Media Watch (PMW), a non-profit organization that monitors Arab media in the West Bank (Judea and Samaria), Gaza and eastern Jerusalem, several PA officials and Fatah movement members have recently put forward the modern-day incarnation of an age-old libel. Fatah is the major component of the authority.

The blood libel was the medieval-era false accusation that Jews murdered Gentile children to use their blood for religious purposes. This slander has taken many forms and its dissemination has historically been followed by murders of Jews, sometimes in large numbers.

CAMERA has noted (“Palestinian T.V. Favorite Accuses Israel of ‘Harvesting’ Terrorists’ Organs,” Nov. 11, 2015) that PA officials have been promoting the libel. These have included Riyad Mansour, the PA’s Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations. Mansour is frequently treated by news media as a reliable source. He sent a letter to the president of the U.N. Security Council, claiming that bodies of Palestinian terrorists killed “were returned without corneas and other organs.”

More recently, other Palestinian Arab officials have joined Mansour to claim that Israel harvests organs.

On Nov. 17, 2015, the PA ambassador to Bahrain, Khaled Aref, claimed in Al-Hayat Al-Hadid (the PA’s official daily newspaper) that Israel “steals the Marytrs’ organs, and sells them.”

According to PMW, on December 24, members of the dormant Palestinian Legislative Council further disseminated the blood libel by calling for autopsies on terrorists killed “in order to know if the Martyrs’ organs have been stolen [by Israel] and to legally prosecute the occupation.”

From far-away Chile to Ramallah: the anti-Semitic Palestinian canard

...But the comments by the ambassador to Chile, who maybe thought his words spoken at the end of the world would not get far, are identical to those used by the anti-Semitic extreme right in the years between the two world wars. This is a deliberate policy and not just repeated lapses. The Israeli left, which complains of a steady decline of its influence on public opinion - partly because of this problem - would regain some credibility by lucidly pitting itself against the Palestinian version of the anti-Semitic beast.

The statements made in May by the Ambassador of the Palestinian Authority to Chile will not change the emphatic views of of Dr. Yossi Beilin, which he expressed in his last article on this site.

At a conference on Israeli-Palestinian peace in Santiago, Ambassador Imad Nabil Jadaa referred to the notorious Protocols of the Elders of Zion, one of the emblematic works of anti-Semitic literature, which is still a bestseller in the Arab-Muslim world.

According to the diplomat, Zionism was created in order to to implement the Jewish project of world domination. No less. The ambassador quoted passages from the 1901 pamphlet to support his thesis: "In 1896, a group of intellectuals and Jewish financiers decided to create the Zionist movement, justifying it with the will to create a homeland for the Jews. But in truth," Jadaa explained to his audience, "their real purpose was to lend support to the plan of the Jews to dominate the world."

At the same conference, Jadaa also repeated the famous silly assertion that there is no Jewish people, only a Jewish religion, and that therefore there can be no Jewish state. This idea can also be found in Article 20 of the Charter of the PLO - a racist and anti-Semitic document that has never been abrogated, contrary to claims made by PLO leaders to Europeans. The diplomat added that he was simply citing Israeli anti-Zionist Professor Shlomo Sand, who also claims in one of his books that the Jewish people does not exist: "You see, here’s a Jew, who holds an Israeli passport but proves that the Jewish people is an invention," the ambassador triumphantly proclaimed.

Does Jadaa represent a fringe group or are his views part of the arsenal of Palestinian Arab propaganda? Some will be surprised, others will say that he went too far and that he was only voicing his own views, but those who follow the pronouncements in the Palestinian Authority will understand that Jadaa was expressing the views held by all factions of the Palestinian Arab national movement since its inception.

These extreme remarks should be a warning signal for the Israeli left and far left as Imad Nabil Jadaa has once again exposed the motives of the Palestinian Arabs and the tools they use to try to get their way.

In his article, Beilin certainly criticizes Mahmoud Abbas - just this once will not hurt - but he only denounces the serious democratic shortcomings that prevail in the Palestinian Authority. He doesn’t say a word about the anti-Semitism emanating from Ramallah. Instead he wrote this incomprehensible sentence that Mahmoud Abbas is "Israel's partner for peace … who long ago gathered that peaceful coexistence with Israel is a vital Palestinian national interest.”

The Real Lessons from Birzeit’s Expulsion of Haaretz’s Amira Hass

...Palestinian universities’ unwillingness to confront students with any perspective that might challenge their preexisting views has also hindered Palestinian economic development, because students aren’t developing the critical thinking skills necessary for success in today’s high-tech economy. But that’s the Palestinians’ problem. Birzeit’s education to hatred and prejudice, in contrast, ought to be the problem of anyone who claims to care about Israeli-Palestinian peace. Unfortunately, most of the world would rather look the other way.

If the world hasn’t yet grasped that Palestinians aren’t interested in peace, it’s certainly not because Palestinians haven’t been working hard to make it clear. Mahmoud Abbas’s “genocide” speech at the UN last week did get momentary attention, being too public to ignore completely. But an even more telling incident has been almost completely overlooked: the expulsion of Haaretz reporter Amira Hass–a woman who has spent decades promoting the Palestinian cause–from a conference at Birzeit University near Ramallah, solely because she is an Israeli Jew.

Nobody, in Israel or outside it, is more pro-Palestinian than Hass. To the best of my knowledge, she’s the only Israeli reporter so dedicated to the Palestinians that she has made her home among them for decades, first in Gaza and then in Ramallah. She reports relentlessly on Palestinian suffering under the “occupation regime” and is a tireless apologist for unattractive Palestinian habits such as stone-throwing. Her latest op-ed, for instance, was an apologia for Abbas’s genocide speech, and her report on her expulsion from Birzeit was similarly forgiving of the bigoted policy that bans all Israeli Jews–though not Israeli Arabs–from the campus simply because they are Israeli Jews. So if students and faculty at Birzeit, the Palestinians’ flagship university, can’t even tolerate having Hass on their campus, what does that say about Palestinian readiness to make peace with the Israeli majority, which doesn’t share her belief that their own country is evil and all justice is on the Palestinians’ side?

After all, universities are where the next generation of leaders is nurtured; this makes Birzeit’s position far more important than that of the 79-year-old Abbas, now in the tenth year of his four-year term. Abbas will soon be gone. But Birzeit’s students and graduates will be an influential force in Palestinian society for decades to come.

(I had the opportunity to pass by this twice yesterday, a lovely little town of rock-throwers and budding terrorists in general. Lost my windshield there earlier this year, and while obviously not enough to make an impression, their cemetery is not empty of those who failed the evolution test. In any case, while incensed by the flag being quite in your face, on second thought perhaps it's better to just leave it up. It's not exactly the type of PR that speaks well for the Palestinian Authority and its supporters, and unlike the PA and its flag that some still have illusions about, this one really gets down to basics. Y.)

Hundreds of residents of Gush Etzion were astounded to find a Nazi flag flying right near the mosque in the Palestinian town of Beit Omar. The IDF was notified.

Uri Arnon told Tazpit News Agency: "I felt we were going back 75 years, losing our hold on the land. The Arabs no longer feel the need to hide their murderous tendencies, announcing out loud that they wish to destroy us."

An IDF spokesman said that the flag was hung on an electrical line, and that they were waiting to professionals to come and remove it.

Identifying Palestinian Anti-Semitism Is Itself Racist?

No sooner had a three-day conference on contemporary anti-Semitism at Yale University ended than voices of disapproval arose over a perceived bias and even latent racism of the event. Sponsored by the Yale Initiative for the Interdisciplinary Study of Antisemitism (YIISA) and bringing together some 110 scholars to present papers relevant to the theme of "Global Antisemitism: A Crisis of Modernity," the conference had as its seemingly benign and productive objective a furtherance of the initiative's primary role of identifying and seeking to explain current manifestations of the world's oldest hatred.

The need for such a conference, though distressing, seems to be justified based on both anecdotal and statistic studies, including a 2009 report by the Stephen Roth Institute for the Study of Contemporary Anti-Semitism and Racism at Tel Aviv University, which noted a doubling of anti-Semitic incidents from the prior year: 1,129 in 2009 compared to 559 in 2008. Equally troubling were the 2008 findings of the European Commissioner for Justice, Freedom, and Security Franco Frattini, which revealed that of the documented anti-Semitic incidents on the European continent, Muslims were responsible for fully half, a statistic made more alarming by the fact that European Muslims, based on being only 3%-4% of the population, committed 24 to 32.3 times the number of anti-Semitic incidents as European non-Muslims.

None of this seemed to matter to critics of the Yale conference, who were incensed that many of the scholars who participated were "right-wing extremists" articulating "odious views" about the perpetrators of anti-Semitism, according to Maen Rashid Areikat, the U.S. representative of the Palestine Liberation Organization. "As Palestinians, we strongly support principles of academic freedom and free speech," Mr. Areikat wrote, without a hint of irony, in an indignant open letter to Yale's president, Richard Levin. "[H]owever[,] racist propaganda masquerading as scholarship does not fall into this category."
