The Reality is that an Arab “Palestine” and a “Safe Israel” are Mutually Exclusive - by Dr. Martin Sherman

Israel would be exposed to grave perils if an Arab state were ever to be established on the commanding hills overlooking the country’s coastal megalopolis.

“If a Palestinian state is established, it will be armed to the teeth. Within it, there will be bases of the most extreme terrorist forces, equipped with anti-tank and anti-aircraft shoulder-launched rockets, which will endanger not only random passers-by, but every airplane and helicopter taking off in the skies of Israel and every vehicle traveling along the major traffic routes in the coastal plain”

The above warning was issued by none other than Nobel laureate, the late Shimon Peres, in his book “Tomorrow is Now” (pp. 232, 255.)

After all, “Palestinian” statehood and a secure Israel are mutually exclusive goals. Indeed, this was always the accepted wisdom in Israel – until the discourse was hijacked by the tyrannical diktats of politically correct dogma.

The above dour caveat was echoed by Israel Prize laureate, Prof. Amnon Rubinstein, who also served as Education Minister on behalf of the far-Left Meretz faction: …Israel, small and exposed, will neither be able to exist nor prosper if its urban centers [and] its vulnerable airport…are shelled…this is the terrible danger involved in the establishment of a third independent sovereign state between us and the Jordan River. – ‘The Pitfall of a Third State’, Haaretz, Aug. 8, 1976.

These two citations convey, with chilling accuracy, the grave perils to which Israel would be exposed if an Arab state were ever established on the commanding hills overlooking the country’s coastal megalopolis, where about 80% of the country’s civilian population and commercial activity are located.

These dangers are dramatically illustrated by the following series of photographs, shot from locations inside the territory designated for any future Arab state.

Media and the Real Palestinian Response to Trump's Jerusalem Speech by Bassam Tawil

...So, make no mistake about it: the "rivers of blood" we are being promised are flowing as we speak. Yet, it is the knife that Arabs and Muslims take to one another's throats that is the source of this crimson current, not some statement made by a US president. Perhaps that could finally be an event worth covering by the roving reporters of the region?

A short three hours after US President Donald Trump phoned Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas to inform him of his intention to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a number of Palestinian photojournalists received a phone call from Bethlehem.

The callers were Palestinian "activists," who invited the photographers to come to the city to document an "important event." When the photographers arrived, they discovered that the "important event" was a handful of Palestinian "activists" who wanted to burn posters of Trump in front of the cameras.

The "activists" waited patiently as the photojournalists and cameramen set up their equipment to get the "important event" on film. Shortly thereafter, the media was abuzz with reports about "angry Palestinian protesters taking to the streets to protest" Trump's intention to move the embassy to Jerusalem and his recognition of the city as the capital of Israel. The handful of Palestinians who were filmed burning the Trump pictures were made to look as if they were part of a mass protest sweeping Palestinian communities.

The incident represents yet another example of the collusion between the Palestinians and the media, whose representatives are always more than happy to serve as mouthpieces for the Palestinian propaganda machine and provide an open platform for broadcasting Palestinian threats against Israel and the US.

Had the photographers and cameramen not shown up to the erstwhile "spontaneous" poster-burning event, the Palestinian activists would have been forced to quietly slink back to one of Bethlehem's fine coffee shops.

The banality of defending our lives from the terrorists

...The most worrying thing? That news of the overnight placement of millions of dollars worth of advanced anti-missile technology, along with the soldiers who man it 24/7, on the outskirts of Israel's seventh largest city gets one-line, at most.

This is a note about the unappreciated challenges of making your home in a small country, one that's roughly the size of Hawaii.

Unlike Hawaii, Israel is surrounded not by the blue Pacific Ocean but by entrenched, armed-to-the-teeth, religious fanatics: Hamas and PIJ in the south; Hezbollah in the north; the highly mobile and phenomenally aggressive ISIS just beyond the river that is our eastern border, and talking about rolling westwards.

Very few people outside the circle of Israelis and friends of Israel really care to know

1. how small this little country of ours is
2. how astronomically well-armed the fanatics of Hamas and Hezbollah are, especially with rockets
3. how difficult it can be to conduct ordinary life while tuning in to hourly news bulletins and to incoming-missiles sirens.

No sane person wants to obsess over life-threatening dangers. So most of us find ways to deal with the tensions.

The Sinai: It used to be seen as a paradise

Wikipedia says the Sinai Peninsula is "a tourist destination due to its natural setting, rich coral reefs, and biblical history. Mount Sinai is one of the most religiously significant places in the Abrahamic faiths." It's an optimistic assessment, looked at through the eyes of 2012.

The head of Israel's Military Intelligence, Aviv Kochavi, told the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Israeli parliament - the Knesset - this morning (Tuesday) that the IDF has so far been instrumental in recent days in uncovering and stopping no fewer than ten separate terror cells based in Sinai. He says it has multiple additional terror groups under surveillance at the present time. Ynet says the new Sinai reality came up in the discussions Sunday and yesterday among the Israeli leadership (Netanyahu and Barak), and Hillary Clinton, the visiting US Secretary of State.

Sinai terrorists have deployed rockets, machine-guns and explosives against Israelis on several occasions in the past several months. They killed an Israeli working on the new Israel-Egypt border security fence, and nine additional Israelis in the Islamic Jihad terror attack on a bus traveling on Highway 10 last summer of 2011. The terrorists destroyed sections of the Egypt-to-Israel gas pipeline more than a dozen times in the past year. That pipeline is now no longer delivering gas to Israel. Kidnappings and abductions of Americans, Europeans and other foreign tourists and visitors are a daily reality, right up until this morning.

The unbearable ordinariness of terrorist threats to ordinary people

(In spite of it all, we'll do more than manage, and when it's all over, we'll be happy to have reached home. Y.)

As the summer travel season gets into full swing, there's yet another reminder of the growing role of terror in the lives of ordinary people.

An official “concrete, high risk” warning of terrorist attacks directed against ordinary Israeli civilians was made some hours ago by Israel's National Security Council Counter-Terrorism Bureau. Its general advisory warns all Israelis traveling abroad to increase their customary alertness, particularly businesspersons and Israelis who previously served in public service roles. They're all targets, "at a high risk for kidnapping or murder” according to the dry government office statement.

The background is that Hizbullah is reliably reported to be seeking vengeance against Israelis for the demise of the notorious terrorist mastermind Imad Mugniyeh in 2008.
