Gotta Smile! How would you like your judge? Zionist or patriotic?

...Mr. Erdoğan may have failed to convince the international community that Zionism is a crime against humanity. But he can always pass legislation in Turkey to illegalize it. With judges who loves him and whom he thinks are patriots, he should first build prisons enough to accommodate 43 million or so convicts.

After a judge declared on his Facebook account that he loves Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, among other reasons, “because Zionists and their conspirators don’t love him” (“Why we must love our prime minister,” this column, April 16), the prime minister did not leave the passionate gesture unrequited.

According to Mr. Erdoğan, the judge, who had earlier arrested six police officers because they belonged to Mr. Erdoğan’s phantom-like enemies within, was a “patriot.” The judge had admirably put these “spies and traitors” into jail, but another judge presiding over a higher court released, meaning he had to be immediately transferred to another town.

That’s the 21st-century Turkish administrative reflex to punish Zionist judges. The patriotic judge can wait for a few more years before he climbs up to the top echelons of the judicial bureaucracy and, who knows, perhaps deservedly become the justice minister. Other future candidates should watch out for this challenge and develop similar tactics to come to Mr. Erdoğan’s attention as a patriot. A modest tip from this columnist to counter-challenge the attack: The patriotic judge’s Facebook share on March 30, the election night, was neat, compact and precise: The losers are Zionists and their conspirators.

So, the Zionists again. According to the vote count on March 30, a simple calculation would put the number of Zionists in Turkey at slightly above 43 million people – those Turkish citizens who, judging from their voting preferences, do not love Mr. Erdoğan as dearly as the patriotic judge does. That’s bad news for the Turkish patriots since they have to fight about 5.4 times more Zionists in Turkey than in Israel. When and how so many Zionists infiltrated “99 percent Muslim” Turkey remains a curiosity.

It’s the old (overwhelmingly but not necessarily exclusive) Islamist habit. It was not a coincidence that recent research revealed that only 4 percent of Turks viewed Jews favorably. It was not a coincidence either that another study determined that 41 percent of Turks believed Judaism is “the world’s most violent religion,” or that only 9 percent thought that Arab groups had carried out 9/11.

Thinking that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is always wrong? Certainly not.

Could I be thinking that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is always wrong? Certainly not. His Jan. 22 speech at his party’s parliamentary group meeting was the absolute truth.

• “These bloodsuckers … these warmongers, the descendants of apes and pigs…” (2010) - Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, before he was elected, in reference to Jews and Zionists, while urging his listeners “to nurse our children and our grandchildren on hatred for Jews and Zionists.” Recently, Mr. Morsi’s spokesman, Yasser Ali, “corrected” that “these comments were meant as criticism, not as an insult to Jews.”

• “I went there and saw it myself. There were no genocides or massacres in Darfur. Muslims don’t commit genocide.” (2009) - Prime Minister Erdoğan.

• “You [Jews] know well how to kill.” (2009) - Prime Minister Erdoğan in his famous Davos tirade against Israeli President Shimon Peres.

• “You [Jews] know well how to kill children.” (2012) – Prime Minister Erdoğan in a speech in Cairo.

• “Muslims don’t resort to terror. There is no Islamic terror.” (Various dates) - Prime Minister Erdoğan.

• “My ancestors did not commit genocide.” (2009) - Prime Minister Erdoğan (this time the prime minister did not say that he, born in 1954, was “there” in 1915 and saw that there was no genocide).

Shortly after Turkey's Islamist Prime Minister Recip Erdogan came to power in 2002, he began undermining Turkey's strategic alliance with Israel. Erdogan officially ended the alliance last May when he sent the IHH, an al Qaeda-aligned, Turkish NGO affiliated with his Islamist AKP Party to lead the pro-Hamas flotilla to Gaza.

Aboard the Mavi Marmara, IHH members violently attacked IDF naval commandos who boarded the ship in order to prevent it from breaking Israel's lawful maritime blockade of the Hamas-controlled Gaza coast. In the life and death battle that ensued, nine of the IHH assailants were killed.

By attempting to break Israel's lawful blockade, passengers aboard the Mavi Marmara and the rest of the ships in the flotilla were engaged in illicit acts of war against the Jewish state and providing illicit aid and comfort to an illegal terrorist organization. In supporting and arguably organizing the flotilla, including the Mavi Marmara, Erdogan himself was waging an unlawful war against Israel.

Erdogan reacted to the Mavi Marmara incident with enraged indignation. He demanded that Israel apologize for its commandos' actions and pay compensation to the families of the dead. He also demanded an international inquiry into Israel's actions.

Answering his call, the UN set up a commission to investigate last year's flotilla episode. The report has been ready since May. But its publication has been repeatedly delayed. According to media accounts of its findings, the UN commission agrees that Israel's blockade of Gaza is legal. It also claims that the naval commandos used disproportionate force in fending off the Mavi Marmara passengers' assault against them.

In a bid to salvage Turkey's ties to Israel and so increase waning Congressional support for Turkey, the Obama administration has been mediating talks between Israel and Turkey for the past few months. According to news reports, the administration is now pressuring Israel to agree to Erdogan's demand for an apology and to pay compensation to the families of those killed onboard the Mavi Marmara. The U.S. is also demanding that Turkey agree not to press damages or war crimes claims against Israeli personnel in international or other courts.

Given President Obama's expressed admiration and support for Erdogan, it makes sense that he is pushing this position. But the question remains, why is Turkey insisting that Israel apologize and pay damages for the IDF's lawful actions on the Mavi Marmara? What is he trying to achieve? And what would be the consequences if Israel were to bow to U.S. pressure and apologize?

Courtesy of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Thursday Israel will again be the target of a jihadist-leftist propaganda assault. A flotilla of nine ships which set sail for Gaza from Cyprus earlier this week is scheduled to arrive at our doorstep.

The expressed aim of the flotilla's organizers is to unlawfully provide aid and comfort to Hamas - an illegal terrorist organization. Since it seized power in Gaza three years ago, Hamas, which is openly committed to the genocide of world Jewry and the physical eradication of Israel, has transformed the Gaza Strip into a hub of the global jihad. It has been illegally holding hostage Gilad Schalit incognito for four years. And it is continuously engaged in a massive, Iranian-financed arms buildup ahead of its next assault.

Beyond providing aid to Hamas, the declared aim of the "Free Gaza" movement is to coerce Israel into providing Hamas with an outlet to the sea. This too is in contravention of international law which expressly prohibits states and non-state actors from providing any support to terrorist organizations.

IN SENDING out the latest group of ships, Turkey and its Irish, Greek and Swedish partners seek to appropriate the imagery of the Jewish pre-statehood struggle for independence from Britain. In a bid to appease Hamas's jihadist precursors, in 1939 Britain's Mandatory authorities broke international law and prohibited Jewish immigration to Mandatory Palestine.

The League of Nations' letter of mandate for Britain specifically enjoined the British to facilitate Jewish immigration to the land of Israel. Yet following the Arab terror war from 1936-1939, the British issued the White Paper that all but prohibited Jewish immigration. This move blocked the one place on Earth where European Jews were wanted from accepting them and so trapped 6 million Jews in Hitler's Europe.

Is it Muslim Rage or its Causes that Threatens Us?

The debate over how to handle Islamic terrorism essentially comes down to those who advocate managing Islam in order to control its propensity for violence, and those who believe that instead we should be managing anything and everything that might provoke Muslim rage.

While controlling violence by managing Islam is the logical and direct approach, the weight of the establishment in numerous countries has come down on the side of suppressing all things that might provoke Muslim rage. This disturbing position expresses itself in numerous ways, whether it was the censorship of the Mohammed cartoons, the ongoing attempt to blame Israel for attacks on US troops, or the entire grand theory of the left which blames all Muslim violence on the domestic and foreign policies of their targets.

Given the choice between blaming the criminal for his crimes, or his victims for having provoked him-- the political and cultural elites of the very countries targeted for terror have chosen to turn the blame inward. They have placed their sordid faith in the belief that the best way to manage Islamic rage, is by relentlessly appeasing and avoiding any provocations that might cause it to flare up.

This phenomenon is often seen in abuse victims who have to cope with their abuser's enraged violence. By accepting responsibility for being the cause of his anger, they make it seem controllable and predictable. Their coping mechanism is to blame themselves, rather than face the real problem, which is that they live together with a violent and dangerous individual, who will sooner or later kill them. This is the relationship between the West and Islam.

The victim accepts the abuser's narrative that he is a good and decent person, unless provoked. So too the civilized world accepts Islam's narrative that it is the Religion of Peace, and that it is peaceful, unless it is provoked. By accepting the enemy's narrative, the victim accepts the blame for his blows and assaults, and comes to feel that controlling the abuser's rage is their duty. So too the civilized world accepts that Islamic terrorism is its fault, and that it must "behave better" in order to avoid future blowups. Meanwhile the smallest requests of the Muslim world that it behave better are met with outrage and anger, much as the abuser explodes into a rage at any insinuation that he has an anger management problem.

Guardian and Independent play down Turkey threat to deport resident Armenians

Last week’s announcement by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan that he might deport 100,000 Armenians from his country provides an interesting test for media responsiveness. It had – potentially – all the necessary ingredients for an explosive story: strong regional power responds to accusations of genocide against minority by threatening to deport said minority.

However, the comments made in an interview with the BBC following resolutions passed in the U.S. and Sweden acknowledging the mass killings of Armenians by Turkey between 1915 and 1923 as an act of genocide, failed to attract much attention. Only the right-of centre broadsheets covering the story in their print editions. ‘Turkey threatens mass expulsions to punish Armenians for genocide rulings’ led The Times’ international section on Thursday 18th March, detailing Erdogan’s threat:

‘In my country there are 170,000 Armenians; 70,000 of them are citizens. We tolerate 100,000 more. So what am I going to do tomorrow? If necessary I will tell the 100,000: OK, time to go back to your country.’
