Evidently the prison party’s over for Hamas and Fatah - by Ruthie Blum

The only question now is how long it will take the United Nations and the International Red Cross to condemn Israel for being a prison party-pooper.

At a press conference in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan announced that the “party was over” for Palestinian terrorists in Israeli prisons.

It may be hard to believe that 6,000 Hamas and Fatah killers and handlers are living it up behind bars, particularly since they go on periodical hunger strikes to obtain better conditions. But Erdan’s list of new restrictions should put to rest any skepticism on that score.

The main bombshell he dropped on the failed suicide-bombers and successful stabbers who didn’t make it to Allah’s paradise was that they would stop being grouped in cell blocks according to their terrorist-organization affiliations.

“There will no longer be separate Hamas and Fatah wards,” he said, explaining that the current situation enables each group to become even more radicalized, to use their power against wardens and to make Israeli intelligence-gathering on their organizations’ activities extremely difficult.

Another terrorist prisoner benefit that is going to be revoked, according to Erdan, involves the flow of money that the prisoners receive from outside sources, such as the Palestinian Authority, which pays stipends to terrorists and their families from a “Martyrs’ Fund.” Today, each prisoner is allowed to receive up to NIS 1,600 (about $430) per month. What the prisoners have been doing is pooling the cash, and collectively purchasing groceries and other equipment with which to prepare their own meals, rather than eat the food provided by the Israel Prison Service (IPS).

Question. How Many Times Has The Red Cross Visited Israeli Prisoners in Gaza? - by Sheri Oz

...If you want to identify with suffering prisoners, I ask you to consider raising awareness regarding our three unfortunates who inadvertently found themselves inside Hamas’ Gaza. If you are going to cry, cry for Mengistu, Al-Syed and Anima and their families. They could go on a hunger strike to protest their prison conditions and nobody would know — not even the IRC.

Tell me, Mr Barghouti – how do your prison conditions compare with those of Gilad Shalit who was abducted and held by Hamas in Gaza for five years? How do they compare with the conditions Hamas offers to current Israeli prisoners: Abera Mengistu, Israeli of Ethiopian origin being held in Gaza since September 2014, Hisham al-Syed, Israeli Bedouin held since April 2015, and Juma Ibrahim Abu Anima, Israeli Bedouin who has been held since July last year?

The Israeli Prison Service (IPS) has agreed to let the International Red Cross visit you today (Thursday) in lieu of the pre-scheduled meeting with your lawyer that was cancelled since you called on security prisoners to join you in a hunger strike and you were consequently put into solitary. The reports note that you have not seen anyone from the Red Cross since before the hunger strike. That means that you HAVE seen Red Cross staff before that – and we have no idea how many times these visits have taken place but apparently the IRC visits security prisoners in Israel on a regular basis.

Out of curiousity, I wanted to know how many times the IRC has visited with Abera Mengistu so I called Uri Perednik, Parliamentary Aide to MK Avraham Neguise (pronounced Negosa), who serves as chair of the Caucus for the Return of Avraham (Abera) Mengistu. Perednik told me that the IRC has visited Mengistu a total of zero times. Furthermore, while the Israeli government and Hamas insist that Mengistu is alive, there have been no signs of life presented in fact, according to Perednik.

...For some reason, the "pro-Palestinian" crowd are more interested in releasing people who kill Israeli children than they are in helping out Palestinian children. Perhaps their real agenda has nothing to do with human rights. Just a thought.

About 12 pathetic terror supporters took time out of their meaningless lives to "stand for freedom and dignity for Palestinian prisoners" in front of an electronics store in New York City last Friday. Passers-by didn't even want to make eye contact as they were badgered to accept propaganda sheets. Of course, "freedom and dignity" means the right to have more Arab satellite TV channels and the right to cook their own food in prisons. Not to mention air-conditioning.

Over at Elder of Ziyon, there's a sharp and timely take-down [""Basic rights" demanded by Palestinian prisoners include satellite TV, university education, their own kitchens"] of the pompous demands being trumpeted by Al Jazeera on behalf of Palestinian Arab prisoners behind Israeli bars.

A group of those prisoners is in the midst of a hunger strike:

What are these "basic rights" that the prisoners are demanding? They include:
Adding satellite channels "tailored to the needs of prisoners" [Elder of Ziyon]

and a list of others claimed to be "basic rights". Here's another:

"Allowing prisoners to take photographs with their families every three months".

Undoubtedly a core human rights value, no?

73 prisoners who are serving life sentences for terrorism receive salaries from the Palestinian Authority as public sector employees, pocketing up to NIS 10,000 ($2,700) per month, while their families get tax breaks and free education • Israel: The wages serve as incentive to carry out terror attacks.

The branches emerging from the “tree of freedom” honoring Palestinian prisoners from the Bethlehem district in the West Bank are running out of room.

Each “branch” of this symbolic tree holds up pictures of prisoners who were sentenced to a life term in Israel for terrorism. The images of no fewer than 73 Palestinians who are responsible for killing and maiming hundreds of Israelis hang on the “tree.” For years, Bethlehem was a significant headache for the Israel Defense Forces, which conducted frequent raids there in search of suspects. When the IDF maintained a presence in the city, the volume of attacks decreased. When the IDF left, the attacks resumed with a vengeance. Last April, the “tree” was placed in a glass case in the middle of the city where Christians believe Jesus was born. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Palestinian Prisoner Affairs Minister Issa Karake and Bethlehem district Governor Abdel Fatah Hamail.

However, it appears that the Palestinian Authority, which currently controls Bethlehem, is not satisfied with only symbolic gestures for its heroes. It is also paying their monthly wages. Seventy-three prisoners who are serving life sentences and their “junior” colleagues who were convicted of lesser crimes regularly receive a salary from the authority. All the prisoners even enjoy the perks of public sector employees.

The monthly salary that the authority pays out to jailed terrorists -- a sum that far exceeds the average salary in the West Bank -- is distributed directly to their families. The more grave the crime and the more severe the prison sentence, the higher the monthly payment. Now, as Israel marks five years since Gilad Shalit was taken captive in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, the authority has increased the prisoners’ salaries for the third time. Karake has stated that the salary rise, which is earmarked for “civilian public sector workers as well as military veterans,” will be handed out retroactively. Just one week after their terrorist brethren murdered Israeli civilians in the south, there is a greater interest in examining this issue.

Yet another “human rights” NGO has been caught trafficking in made-up statistics. As Yaacov Lozowick and Elder of Ziyon report, Addameer, a Palestinian “prisoners’ rights” NGO, has been inflating the number of Palestinians it claims have been arrested by Israel to a point of total absurdity:

For Addameer’s numbers to be accurate, Israel would be arresting some 10,000 people a month. Yet the PCHR [Palestinian Centre for Human Rights -- no PR operation for Israel by any stretch of the imagination] says that the number of arrests was 23 last week, 26 the previous week, 23 the week before and 17 the week before that – for a total of less than 100 people a month.

And B’Tselem says that “about 6,831 Palestinians were held in Israel as of the end of December ‘09.” How could only 6,800 Palestinians be held in Israel if the IDF is arresting 10,000 Palestinians per month?

Addameer not only made up the initial numbers but they keep grossly inflating them, confident that their anti-Israel audience will lap them up without question.
