Where may a Jew live? by Vic Rosenthal

...Every Jew, living and dead, was removed from the Gaza Strip in 2005. One of the reasons for taking this step was that the Jews living there were exposed to terrorism. And what happened? The Jew haters did not stop trying to kill Jews, they simply developed means to attack Jews on the other side of the fence, with rockets and tunnels.

In my previous post I said that Rabbi Raziel Shevach, z”l, was murdered only because he was a Jew. A reader of my blog took issue, and because I think this question is important, I’ve decided to write a special pre-Shabbat post. Here is the comment:

I very much regret the loss of lives and certainly of a young father of 6 children.

But Rabbi Raziel Shevach Z.L. was not killed because he was a Jew. He was killed because he was Jew living in an unsecured area. A security fence/wall was build to protect Israeli from terror and people living on the other side of that wall know the risk involved traveling around as if there is no war going on. This rabbi was trusting that Hashem would protect him.

The least charitable interpretation to give to this comment is to say that it implies that we must allow Jew haters the right to determine where a Jew may or may not live. I don’t think the writer intended that, but it is a somewhat slippery slope. There are places in France and the UK and perhaps other countries where a Jew may not live, because he or she will certainly be attacked by antisemites. But can we allow this to be the case anywhere in the Jewish state?

One could interpret the comment as simply pointing out that it’s dangerous to drive on Route 60 near Schechem at night. But this amounts to the same thing. Rabbi Shevach lived there. Should he stay at home after dark? Not that it would make so much difference. The murderers came to the homes of the Fogel family, Dafna Meir, the Salomon family, and many others.

The next terrorist atrocity? As far as the next security slip-up by Israel.

Hamas Interior Minister, Fathi Hammad

We read far too many ill-informed news reports suggesting that the seriously deadly terrorism of the Arafat War (the mis-named Second Intifada) are behind us and that this is due to a pragmatic desire by the competing Palestinian Arab regimes to calm things down, at least for now.

These claims are untrue and unfounded. They represent wishful thinking at best; they are probably better described as cynical and knowing manipulation of public opinion. They have been untrue at virtually every moment of the past 13 years, if not longer. Terrorism subsides when its agents are intercepted and defeated. This is a function of vigilence - and good fortune.

The Jerusalem Post reported in the last hour on a warning by the Shabak, based on intelligence that comes partly from the questioning of security suspects arrested days before planning to carry out terrorist actions, that the Minister of the Interior in the Hamas regime version of the Palestinian Arab government, Fathi Hammad, is the key figure behind plans for agents of terrorism to carry out atrocities against Israeli civilians. It notes that Hammad "has often called out for the continuation of terror attacks in Israel".

The Shabak says Hammad is busily activating terrorist members of a group called 'Defenders of Al Aqsa', which he was instrumental in setting up, to execute those terrorist actions. They come principally from the villages of Ras Karkar and Siluad in the Binyamin region of the West Bank.

The terrorists "received concrete instructions to kidnap a soldier, take his ID and cell phone for negotiations, and then kill and bury him at a hideout," the report said. Prior to their arrest, the terrorists sent a message to Gaza saying they were ready to act within days. The arrest prevented impending terror attacks, the Shin Bet added.

The Shabak statement goes on to refer to a key factor about which most informed analysts know but choose to ignore for political reasons:

"the extent of the involvement by senior Hamas members in setting up terror attacks against targets in the West Bank and Israel, despite their commitments to Egypt to uphold a truce" with Israel.

Care to know a little more about this Hammad and his passions?:

Gordon - Israel Continues to Thwart Terror Attacks from PA-Controlled West Bank

Evelyn Gordon..

12 June '12..

On May 10, the official Israel Defense Forces blog posted an article titled "The 2012 Terror Attacks Against Israel You Never Heard About." The title is somewhat misleading, since in fact, none of these attacks actually took place: They were thwarted by the IDF's unsung but daily counterterrorism operations in the West Bank.

While one or two items on the list seem questionable, most could undoubtedly have been deadly attacks. There are no innocent reasons for carting bombs around.

On April 11, for instance, soldiers caught a Palestinian at a checkpoint near Nablus "carrying improvised explosive devices, three knives and 50 bullets." On April 21, two Palestinian teens were caught near Tapuach Junction with five pipe bombs, a gun and ammunition. On April 24, soldiers found four improvised bombs in the bags of two Palestinians crossing a checkpoint near Jericho. On April 28, two Palestinians were caught trying to smuggle four pipe bombs through yet another West Bank checkpoint. On May 7, soldiers caught a Palestinian teen with three pipe bombs near Tapuach Junction. On May 10, two other Palestinians were caught near Tapuach Junction "carrying 2 explosive devices and 3 prepped firebombs."

It's not surprising that this activity goes largely unreported; soldiers doing their job shouldn't be unusual enough to be newsworthy. But this low profile could become a real security hazard for Israel in light of Egypt's presidential elections, whose final round is scheduled for mid-June.

IMRA - Clear Red Lines with Unambiguous Consequences For Controllable September

Dr. Aaron Lerner
IMRA
Weekly Commentary
08 September '11

“Those authorized to perform guard duty in Judea and Samaria are permitted to open fire against unarmed demonstrators who are threatening to infiltrate a settlement, if such an infiltration, under the circumstances, presents in the guard’s opinion an immediate and real life threatening danger,”
Eyal Elad - Attorney-General’s Office for Judea and Samaria 21 August 2011
(As reported in The Jerusalem Post 9 September 2011)

“There is concern at the IDF, and especially from the Military Advocate General, that any such instructions will be interpreted as rules of engagement by the settlers."
Chaim Levinson Haaretz Published 30.08.11

Let’s be clear about this.

If a group of ostensibly unarmed Palestinians marches into a Jewish community in Judea and Samaria there is absolutely positively no way of knowing either what they are carrying on their persons or what they will even do with their bare hands.

And it doesn’t matter if they are accompanied by cameras from ABC, CBS, SKY, BBC, CNN and twenty other services.

The very moment that the group approaches a community and passes over the predetermined defense lines they constitute – by virtue of their very presence – “an immediate and real life threatening danger.”

And the very best way to avoid this happening in the first place is to strip away any possible ambiguity about this policy.

Those defense lines should be clearly marked with the Palestinians warned in advance about the existence of the lines and how to identify them.

That’s not to say that security forces should not be deployed beyond those lines in order to prevent Palestinians from even coming close to the lines. Just that in the event that for some reason a group of Palestinians find that they are able to cross the line that they should be aware that doing so would endanger their own lives.

Eyal Elad may have meant well, but his instructions are written more in a way to provide income for defense attorneys as they argue in the calm of quiet air conditioned court rooms as to whether the Palestinian mob descending on a Jewish community was indeed “an immediate and real life threatening danger.”

We have a long history in the IDF of zones being declared sterile zones in which literally anyone who enters it risks being dispatched to Paradise - no questions asked.

The very same policy should apply in the event of Palestinian marches and invaders crossing the security line of the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. Anything less ambiguous will only invite trouble.

Anger and Frustration

Marc Prowisor

http://yeshaviews.blogspot.com/2011/03/anger-and-frustration.html

The pictures of the attack in Itamar bring back the nightmares of the last round of violence during the uprising that started in the year 2000. Even then, people refused to realize the horror and intensity of the attacks. Many of these attacks were not even shown to the world, let alone our people.

Our Arab foes do not have courage, do not have honor, they never did, and who knows if they ever will. I am not being derogatory, simply factual. Arab terror prefers the weak, the unarmed as targets, and as shields. Do they not use schools and hospitals as staging grounds for attacks?

The rebellions in the Arab nations and their history prove these points, their own treatment of their own populations show us that, INCLUDING how they treat their brethren in Judea and Samaria.

This is what many of them are rebelling about!

What a fitting end to Israel Apartheid Week, by showing the world who gets hailed as a hero in the Arab world, just as these heinous celebrations in Gaza, Ramallah, Nablus and other places prove. Their leaders hesitate to condemn this attack or do so while explaining how it is “understandable” and these same Arab leaders are the same people our own weak minded, misdirected, deceived youth in college campuses flock to. These are the new heroes of so-called “Liberal thinkers”, these are the people who get invited to so many Jewish events, and these are the speakers at J STREET and other and ignorant and self hating organizations.

My own personal frustration regarding this particular attack comes from my own experience in the Security world. I watch the outpouring of hearts from around the world to bond with the remaining members of this dear family. The majority of the Jewish world is crying, and giant efforts are being made to assist the family in any need they may have.

WHAT ABOUT PREVENTING ATTACKS LIKE THESE?

Why do we only wake up when we are victims, why will we only see major efforts being made then?

Of course we come across those who say, Jews shouldn’t be there, then this would not have happened… really? Has terror against Israel only started in 1967? Has it only been limited to Judea and Samaria? All of this is ONLY because we are in our historic homeland? How ignorant can someone be?

I know, VERY ignorant.

I am frustrated and angry because I have worked years at trying to convince our own that we must protect our people, we must defend and fight against our enemies, just like anyone else in this world!

The concept of Jews defending themselves and standing up to their enemies is still relatively foreign to many outside of Israel, even to a few inside of Israel.

Defense and Strength are multi dimensional, and each side must be addressed and dealt with. Standing up to Politicians, Hate groups, wrongful legislatures are only a few of the dimensions. Building, populating, LIVING are more, and my realm; Security is another.

I am frustrated that we act only “after” and not “before”. Why do most people not realize that the point is to PREVENT and STOP terror attacks against us?

We have proven to the world that we excel at being victims, our Arab neighbors have even jumped on the bandwagon, they figure it worked for the Jews, “why not us?” Except in this case they have duped an entire generation and world from seeing just who is really victimizing whom, these Arab leaders have hidden themselves from the world and their own people’s eyes. They have portrayed the Jews and Israel as enemies (for years and generations) to veer attention away from their own despicable acts against their own and humanity.

As parents we try to safeguard our children, we do whatever necessary and then some. We take precautions regarding our property and watching over those dear to us. We try to prevent problems from occurring, we are considered wise and “sharp” if we have the insight to foresee possible problems and act in a pro-active manner.

Shouldn’t it be the same in how we act towards our people in Israel?

I know standing up and defending yourself and people is not for everyone, I know fighting back against terror doesn’t speak to most. Many people feel easier comforting victims or the hurt. Many even prefer this.

I would like to prevent more of our people from becoming victims… I would like to stop the hurt. I would like to fund projects that may prevent attacks from occurring and watch children grow, marry, and become parents. I know, many of you are saying, “he’s a dreamer.”

No I am not a dreamer, I “hang” with a bunch of people (and majority of a country) who feel and act the same way, I also know that many of you reading this feel the same way.

We can make this happen. Lets make this happen!

Chesed (Kindness) has always been known as a Jewish characteristic,

Gevorah (strength) is also.

No More Jewish Victims!

Sometimes civil, Sometimes not

Operation: No More Jewish Victims

International Conferences, World Jewish Congresses, High-level meetings, so many events, so many discussions, so many intentions.

Indeed an interesting level of people and action. Possibilities are discussed, strategies are decided upon, and plans are made.

It is a civil world, where people are dressed properly, good coffee and cakes are served while polite chatter echoes through the halls between energetic and heart wrenching speeches.

There is another world that exists parallel to this one, it is the one where people drive to work everyday, where the simple folk go about their daily chores, where children go to school, you know, where everybody lives.

This is a world where those that don’t attend the conferences sometimes voice their opinions, sometimes civil, sometimes not. This is a world where sometimes words get translated into action, sometimes civil, sometime not. This is a world where a persons heart can make all the difference in the world not just for one person, but an entire family or more, sometimes civil, sometimes not.

Beyond the Conferences, the Congresses, the discussions, this world exists. It is the world where Rocks and Firebombs are still thrown at Jewish cars making their way home in hopes of making the drivers lose control, crash and die. It is the world where explosive devices are placed next to Jewish villages and shots are still fired randomly at houses, don’t worry, it’s only occurs (for now) now and then. It is the world where the danger of being kidnapped exists only because you are a Jew. It is the world where an enemy, who does not wear a uniform, who is only clothed by hatred, targets civilians, whose only crime is that they are Jews and live in the heartland of their country.

A Point of View

Marc Prowiser
Yesha Views
14 December 09

Many have asked that I give an update and my view of the Security situation in Yehuda and Shomron today. Not an easy task, due to the many mitigating factors that change every time a Government official - either here in Israel, an Arab or American - sneezes.

The simplest way to put it is that we are here in our communities in our heartland and there are many Arabs that want us out, (not all of the Arabs wish to see the Jews leave this area). It is important to remember, that the want and desire to be “Jew Free”, doesn’t apply just to Yehuda and Shomron, but all of Israel, this view is not held by all Arabs, but certainly most.

It is impossible to discuss the Security situation in Yehuda and Shomron without first reminding everybody that this conflict did not start yesterday. Whereas this is not the place to get into a history lesson, it is the place to remind everybody that ignorance regarding the conflict is the wrong foot to stand on. To quote a friend, “the Jewish –Arab conflict started when Jews decided to fight back”.

I will discuss the situation today. Since Oslo, we have witnessed the birth of a new Arab army in the Middle East, that of the “Palestinian Authority”, however this is not the only Arab Military body in this region. There are many branches to this tree, with each branch spreading out to even more factions. Fatah itself is divided into many factions based on regions and philosophies, i.e. Nablus, Ramallah and so on. The same principal applies to Hamas, of course from there we can add on the Jihad Islami, PFLP, Al Qaeda, the list goes on. Each of these “Units” claims their own agenda and “work load”, but they do work also in accordance to the strategical and political whims of the two (Fatah and Hamas) leaderships.
