The Ahed Tamimi PR promotion continues on BBC World Service radio - by Hadar Sela

...The fact that five days later the BBC chose to broadcast yet another report in which that crucial context was not provided to audiences indicates once again that the corporation and its Middle East editor have self-conscripted to a political campaign that has now included no fewer than ten separate reports on Ahed Tamimi since December 19th.

When two different BBC platforms promoted filmed reports by the BBC’s Middle East editor last week on the topic of Ahed Tamimi and her upcoming trial, many called out the bias and manipulation evident in Jeremy Bowen’s reports and in particular the fact that, while concealing from audiences the fact that the charges against Tamimi include incitement, he disingenuously promoted the false notion that she has been charged with terrorism offences because of a “slap”.

Jeremy Bowen is of course well-known for being impervious to any criticism – which he takes very grudgingly – and so it did not come as much of a surprise to see that, despite the flaws in his report having been called out, five days later an audio version that is very similar to the filmed reports was aired on the BBC World Service radio programme ‘Newshour‘.

Presenter Razia Iqbal began by promoting Bowen’s ‘terrorism’ red herring once again.

No surprise as BBC’s Bowen repeats his ‘no human shields in Gaza’ claims - by Hadar Sela

...Having publicly claimed that he did not come across human shields in the few days he was in Gaza in the summer of 2014, three years later he cannot accommodate the ample evidence that shows otherwise. Having promoted his own pseudo-legal interpretations of the Law of Armed Combat in his 2014 reporting from Gaza, he is incapable of subsequently adjusting that view in line with the facts. That, of course, is what happens when the agenda takes precedence over the actual story.

BBC Radio 4’s series ‘Our Man in the Middle East’ continued on June 16th with episode 15 – titled “Missiles and the Ballot Box” – which was devoted to Jeremy Bowen’s view of the Gaza Strip.

“Jeremy Bowen explores Gaza, the Palestinian territory controlled by Hamas, the Islamic resistance movement. It’s not a place you would chose [sic] for a Mediterranean holiday, though the Palestinians used to dream of developing a tourist industry, he says. “Israel could recapture Gaza in days if it wanted to. But then it would be responsible for around a million children and about the same number of angry adults. Palestinians can’t destroy a state as strong as Israel. But Israel can’t bludgeon Palestinians into submission either.””

Refraining from informing audiences that hopes of economic development in the Gaza Strip were killed off by, among other things, the Islamist take-over of the territory, Bowen opens the programme with the theme promoted in that synopsis.

Jeremy Bowen and his BBC minders today provide the sleek arch-terrorist Khaled Meshaal with an invaluable platform (not for the first time) for marketing the jihadist program of his outlawed Hamas terror organization to an international audience, safe from the threat of incisive or even semi-informed questions. Despotic, thuggish 'militant' terrorists world-wide must be green with envy.

Just three jaw-dropping - and unchallenged - quotes from the text version of "Hamas leader Meshaal warns of Israeli 'extremism' after elections" [BBC World, today] (we assume a longer video version will eventually emerge):

In an interview with BBC Middle East editor Jeremy Bowen in Qatar, Mr Meshaal said attacks on Israel would continue "as long as there is occupation, aggression, war and killing". But he stressed that Hamas was "careful to respect international humanitarian law and to target only military targets".

"...Israel killed the peace process," he added, blaming Mr Netanyahu's outgoing government, along with "extremist forces" in Israel, for the collapse of the US-brokered direct negotiations last year.

Hamas... was "an active resistance with a just cause, battling the occupier." "Others practice violence under the name of jihad, which we condemn. And this is not Islam. Islam encourages its followers to fight those who occupy their land and their sacred places. But Islam does not allow killing innocent people, civilians, or killing based on identity, belief and different views, political or religious."

Nod-nod, yes-yes. The reporter, evidently overawed by the presence of greatness, puts it out there for Joe Average to take in. Moral value judgement? Common sense? Horror in the face of unapologetic, religion-inspired blood-lusting murder? Those are probably not Bowen's thing. Or his editors'.

First, there is this blooper from the BBC's Jeremy Bowen.

He is asked for his opinions about Jerusalem, where he lived for five years and visits often, and, inter alia, one question is:

WHAT’S THE FIRST THING YOU DO?

To which he replies:

You should go to the Old City, home to the Western Wall (the holiest place in the world for Jews to pray), the Aq sa mosque and the Dome of the Rock, not to mention the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. I like to visit the Old City’s various quarters – Jewish, Palestinian and Armenian.

That is not quite correct. In fact, Bowen makes two errors.

First. the Western Wall is not the holiest place for the Jews to pray.

The Temple Mount is.

Jews, as he should know, are prohibited from praying there by the Israel government since Muslims will riot and engage in violence. It's a sort of territorial compromise. Jews can be there but can't be Jews there. They must shed any religious/national identity.

Second, there are four "Quarters" in Jerusalem's Old City: Muslim, Jewish, Armenian and Christian.

No, no "Palestinian Quarter".

This is the quality of BBC information that seems to be churned out by people who either forget easily what they know, or they never knew in the first place or, if they did know, they subvert for political and personal ideological bias.

In another instance, we find that AP is astounded. Something seems to be beyond their comprehension.

Delegitimising Israel by Delegitimising Scripture

In 2002 the BBC’s execrably biased-against-Israel Middle East editor Jeremy Bowen, though neither historian, theologian nor archaeologist, was trotted out to present an Al Beeb documentary on Moses,who of course was the great Lawgiver of the Jewish People.

Bowen was true to his and Al Beeb’s agenda-laden form.

He loftily pronounced the biblical account of Moses and the Exodus to be “a fanciful tale ... the stuff of fairy tales”.

“If the Hebrews were never in Egypt then perhaps the whole epic was fiction, made up to give the Jewish people a history and a destiny,” he declared. And he scoffingly dismissed what he called “the religious justification of the State of Israel” – Moses’ “burning bush” encounter with the Almighty.

As the London-based Israeli journalist Douglas Davis observes of that documentary, in an essay entiled “Hatred in the Air: The BBC, Israel and Antisemitism” that appears in the book A New Antisemitism? Debating Judeophobia in 21st-Century Britain (2003):

“I have no problem with a documentary that suggests scientific explanations for seemingly miraculous events in the Jewish story, but I do object when I suspect that the purpose of the investigation is to delegitimize the basis of Judaism and to undermine the claim of the Jewish people to national expression in even a part of its ancestral home. ...[I]t is inconceivable that the BBC would devote an hour-long prime-time documentary to a critical investigation that served to delegitimize the Prophet Muhammed and undermine the basic tenets of Islam.”

Now, the BBC seems set on the delegitimising-Israel-through-undermining-Judaism course once again.

Aaqil Ahmed, a Muslim who to many Christians' astonishment and indeed consternation was appointed Head of BBC’s Religion and Ethics department a couple of years ago, commissioned Dr Francesca Stavrakopoulou, an atheist university lecturer in theology and religion at Exeter University (for whom also see http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-bible-a-history/articles/abrahams-inheritance), to present a three-part series “that seeks to de-construct and sceptically critique the Holy Scriptures of Judaism and Christianity”.

The phone rang just after teatime in the Asserson household. On the line, Basil Feldman cleared his throat. Baron Basil Feldman. Lord Feldman is a Jewish businessman who made his fortune in plastic toys in Britain. As a member of the Upper Chamber of the United Kingdom Parliament, in the Conservative interest, he is well-acquainted with the forces at play in British society. "Next week, I will have my annual lunch with the head of the BBC," Lord Feldman intoned. "Because of you, Mr. Asserson, the conversation is likely to be highly embarrassing."

A short time before that telephone call, Asserson had published his fourth study. This time too, as in the three previous studies, the successful Jewish lawyer sought to demonstrate that the world's strongest broadcaster, the British Broadcasting Corporation, had a hostile bias in its reporting of Israel. With a meticulousness inspired by his goal, Asserson collated every report, every word, every nuance, of the BBC's output, and revealed to everyone the corporation's true colors. Feldman demanded that the lawyer should immediately stop publishing his "problematic" reports. When he refused, the baron called at least twice more, and politely suggested a meeting. Asserson agreed, but said from the outset that nothing would come of such a meeting.
