The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is yet again embroiled in controversy.

Israel’s Public Broadcasting Corporation released recordings on Jan 1 of a senior professor in the university’s Faculty of Humanities berating and humiliating a student for attending class in an Israel Defense Forces’ uniform.

In response to the incident, the university issued a statement “apologiz[ing] to the student who felt hurt,” but did not express any intention to discipline the professor.

While the university’s tepid response might be puzzling to some, it should come as no surprise given its allowance and encouragement of anti-Israel activity to fester on its campus.

This was glaringly evident this past October, when the university joined the judicial battle against the government’s decision to bar BDS and Students for Justice in Palestine activist Lara Alqasem from entering the country.

In the same month, the university’s law faculty held a highly politicized conference titled “Life Under Occupation,” which showcased the university’s diversity by featuring a long lineup of far-left speakers.

The speakers included three writers for Haaretz, two New Israel Fund public council members, a staff member of the terrorist-defending NGO Adalah, the CEO of the far-left NGO Ir Amim, a founding member of B’Tselem and several left-wing professors.

Justice was not achieved – it was denied - by Justin Amler

While she gets to walk the hallways of an Israeli institution in comfort, Jewish students in the United States are intimidated because of the activities that Lara Alqasem was part of and led.

On the twenty first day of the month of February 1969, ordinary people were shopping in a busy supermarket on Agron street in Jerusalem. People were doing what all people do, every hour of every day, in every place, in every city in the world. Some were buying milk. Others were buying snacks. Some were looking to buy chicken for Shabbat. Others were buying candles. Some were buying baby food, or diapers or towels, or plastic spoons, or a thousand other ordinary, everyday things. In a corner of the supermarket sat a toddler eating pretzels, waiting as his mother ran in to grab some last minute item.

Ordinary people, Christians, Muslims and Jews, doing ordinary things on an ordinary day.

What was just an ordinary day, was not to end that way though. While these simple things that we all tend to do were going on, a bomb placed in the supermarket exploded, ripping through the aisles and through the lives of hundreds of people.

It was a bomb planted by an Arab terrorist, designed to kill ordinary, innocent people going about their daily lives – men, women, children, mothers, fathers. Nine people, including the toddler sitting eating pretzels in the corner, were injured that fateful day and two people were killed – 21 year old Leon Kanner of Netanya and 22 year old Eddie Joffe of Tel Aviv. They were roommates and both were students at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Hillary Clinton told the AIPAC conference this past Monday that, after fifteen months of his presidency, President Obama was about to launch, with our allies, "sanctions with bite." I commented on this earlier in the week. But a top front-page dispatch in this morning's Wall Street Journal tells us just how little pain Iran would incur when the political psychodrama finally unfolds at the Security Council. The fact is that the Obami have been courting Russia and China all this time unsuccessfully while, in the meantime, Tehran is make steady advances in the acquisition of nuclear weapons and even steadier advances in destabilizing SP the Middle East.

Now, you have to understand that the president needed to make a choice. He couldn't push Iran too hard while he was relentlessly bludgeoning the State of Israel. And, by the way, he was already bludgeoning the Jewish state even before Jerusalem had foolishly stumbled further into two neighborhoods, one already Jewish and the other on the road to the Hebrew University, Hadassah Hospital, and the Mount of Olives. Why shouldn't Jews live on this road?
