Houses Demolished! - Where's the Outcry?

The government demolishes some houses, saying that they were illegally built on public land. There is an international outcry. True or false?

Here’s an account from 2010:

Hamas police expelled Palestinian Arabs from perhaps three dozen houses along the border of Sinai, and demolished them. Hamas said those houses were illegal, being erected on government property in Rafiah. Masked Hamas policewomen beat fellow Arab women and children with clubs, until they evacuated the houses.

Here’s a story from this week:

Members of the Abu Amrah family in Gaza City demonstrated Tuesday in front of offices of the Palestinian Legislative Council protesting a decision by the Hamas-run government to demolish 75 houses belonging to the family in the al-Rimal neighborhood.

I am unaware of any outcry across the globe.

[Y. How many questions can you think of?

1) Where were the IHH, ISM, or for that matter any "Human Rights" activists to stand in front of the bulldozers?

2) Were these families members of Fatah or any other group other than Hamas, or just without Hamas protection?

3) How many times will Hamas use pictures of this neighborhood as evidence of Israeli destruction and war crimes?

4) If there is a shortage of building material to replace these homes, how is Hamas going to build their new complex on top of the rubble they created?]



In Gaza, around 20 families have had their homes demolished as part of a plan to regulate housing in the strip. The deposed government of Hamas says the houses were built illegally on government owned land and should be torn down.

But the families say they paid for the land.

Hamas police wielding clubs beat and pushed residents out of dozens of homes in the southern Gaza town of Rafah on Sunday before knocking the buildings down with bulldozers, residents said.

Gaza's militant Hamas rulers said the homes were built illegally on government land. Newly homeless residents were furious over Palestinians on bulldozers razing Palestinian homes.

For years, Palestinians have criticized Israel for destroying houses, mostly because they were built without permits issued by the military. Now, Rafah residents complained, their own government, run by the Islamic militant Hamas that seized power in Gaza in July 2007, has done the same.

"They promised reform and change – instead they've destroyed our homes," shouted Miasar Gan, a 54-year-old woman. Gan said she and her husband had nowhere else to go.
