Observation: Demand PA Confidence Building Measure: Remove all PA memorialization of Palestinians who died attacking Israel after 9 Sept. 1993
The Egyptian FM wants Israeli and Palestinian confidence building measures.
And I can't think of a more intuitive confidence building measure than for the Palestinian Authority to remove all PA memorialization of Palestinians who died attacking Israel after 9 Sept. 1993.
That's streets, public buildings, events. Anything official.
That's because on September 9, 1993, Yasser Arafat, on behalf of the Palestinians, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in which "The PLO renounces the use of terrorism and other acts of violence."
That September 9, 1993 letter and the agreements that followed represented a formal forfeiting of the "right to resistance" via violence.
So while the Palestinians may get away with engaging in mental gymnastics to justify honoring cold blooded terrorist murderers who slaughtered innocent people before the September 9, 1993 commitment, they have absolutely no right to honor anyone who engaged in violence after September 9, 1993.
I can't think of a better litmus test.
It’s a clearly observable test: the street signs of streets named after Palestinians who engaged in violence after September 9, 1993 have to be changed. DItto for the names of schools other public institutions.
Bottom line: If the Palestinian leadership refuses to carry out this confidence building measure then there are no grounds for having any confidence in them.
Because if they believe today that its honorable to murder us in gross violation of the commitments they have already made then there is no value to any commitment they make in the future as well.
