Normal rock-throwing activities by Arab Hebron youth earlier this year. The one surety is that a picture like this will never be recorded or posted by the ISM or related groups. |
05 August '13..
A 47 second video, camera in position, defining a moment by what one is allowed to see, as opposed to what has been deliberately ignored or or most likely erased.
A moment without context, the event clearly already midstream, but missing the precipitating cause. A rock or rocks thrown, with a 3 or 4 year-old hit, sitting on the ground wounded by the the thrown object, a soldier hit in the eye being taken away for first-aid treatment? A shattered bedroom window? All constants, yet in spite of the all-encompassing presence of camera and video equipment, rarely does any of the above see the light of day. And assuredly not from an organization that to this day is not ashamed of having sent a young American woman to her death to create a poster child for future recruitment. Unfortunately, as she was a proud American flag burner in Gaza, her death was a bit of a waste of raw material, garnering little support other than from amongst the most cynical.
To the best of our knowledge through the conversations of parent and children, the event actually began with an unknown number of the children busying themselves with punching each other, and unfortunately, at least a couple of the soldiers nearby becoming involved to break-up the commotion. Clearly a mistake on their part as the best intentions can clearly go awry in this location, but at this point the camera was likely to be recording that which would have given context, i.e., rock-throwing, but can no longer be found, or has since been erased.
From there the children and action moves down the street and to the home of Abu Shamsiya, and the cameras, 3 of them immediately go silent. As can be seen around the 17 second mark, those of us on the adjacent location, including 3 ISM related camera holders are moving towards the rail to see what is occurring immediately below us, yet there's no footage, no photographs that will serve the family or the ISM's agenda in a productive manner as the father bodily assaults the child for having brought this problem to the home's doorstep. We cringed as the young boy reeled from the angry blow to his head from his enraged father, on the other hand our camera-equipped compatriots on the roof evidently turned away or turned-off their equipment, as this would not create a good deal of feigned sympathy for the boy's fate. Perhaps more importantly, the large number of soldiers present at that point conducted themselves appropriately, which is to say they of necessity let the boy's father administer blows to his son's head without intervening on behalf of the child, and thereby depriving the ISM of a second photo-op.
So goes another day with the presence of our visitors from Europe and America, spending their vacation time in Hevron encouraging discord between neighbors, and abandoning them to further conflict with a feeling of a job well-done. In the parlance of the extreme-political left, we might say they are able to truly enjoy themselves here exercising the benefit of "white-skin privilege", to freely move about provoking further confrontation with minimal risk to themselves, and with little accomplishment, but accumulating self-induced adrenalin fueled memories of what someday will be all they have left to live for.
Incidentally, the following is the note posted with this Youtube:
On the 3rd of August 2013 at roughly 4:30pm in Tel Rumedia, Hebron, an Israeli soldier assaults a 12 year old boy. This is whilst the illegal settlers are currently atop the roof of a private Palestinian home, causing trouble. (emphasis added)
As all that is available in the video concerning the visitors on the roof is from 16 seconds and onwards one might wonder about the "causing trouble" claim as the only real action recorded their is one of the ISM personages running about while the rest of those up top walk about rather calmly. Truthfulness though is not one of the qualities most people associate with the ISM or its related sub-groups.
