"For Israel, every test is a final exam" was the nightmarish truth Israelis faced for generations.
This, fortunately, is no longer always the case.
Students in Israeli universities typically benefit from a "moed bet", the opportunity to take a second test to improve their grade.
And in the coming days the State of Israel will have two of its own moed bets: next Sunday on 5 June when Arabs plan to invade Israel and shortly thereafter when Israel will face a larger version of the flotilla that turned into a diplomatic nightmare last summer.
There is no doubt that the Arabs and their allies are planning various surprises for both events, but the underlying fact that these massive events are going to take place is anything but a surprise.
Simply put, we here in Israel have every right to expect that our leadership – both military and civilian – is preparing the appropriate measures and responses to address these challenges – not excuses for a failure to perform.
As of this writing, Israeli officials have declined to describe what they would consider a "success" this Sunday. One hopes that the prevention of photo ops of Arabs planting – even temporarily – a Palestinian flag on Israeli soil is part of the definition of "success."
In the case of the flotilla, the underlying test - that no boat reaches Gaza – is obvious to all.
High scores in moed bet will have profound ramifications this coming September and beyond.
In a neighborhood where stability hinges so critically on deterrence, a successful handling of the coming events could make an important contribution towards bringing the Palestinians back to a more workable path rather than the apocalypse they are pursuing today.

WHEN THE NEXT "FLOTILLA" ARRIVES, ISRAEL MUST SHOW THAT "GAME TIME" IS OVER
The so-called "activists" of the so-called flotilla, would never have the guts to go near any of the dictatorships surrounding Israel to try to make some type of political protest statement.
They would get their heads blown off immediately if they were among the more fortunate. If not, they would be staring at many weeks and/or months of blood curdling torture in a vermin infested cell that would make "water boarding" seem like kid's play. And only then would they get their heads blown off!
The Palestinians, who are treated as fifth world squatters in Syria, not even allowed to become Syrian citizens and have the right to work to feed their families, would cut off their right hand to live anywhere in Israel.
In fact the high quality of life the Jews created in Israel, over fifty years, with their blood, sweat and tears, is precisely one of the chief reasons the Arabs want to push the Jews into the sea and take possession of what the people in Israel created with generations of backbreaking labor.
The enemies of Israel want something they could never create themselves. They just don't want the Jews around after they replace them.
These "flotilla hypocrites" see their big summer voyage as one highly thrilling and exciting adventure, drunk and intoxicated with the idea that they will be seen as great international heroes who by July 1 will be basking in the lime-light of International celebrity, publicity and stardom, surrounded by fawning admirers begging for their autographed photos.
Doubtless, so runs the Hollywood screenplay racing through the heads of these "flot-niks", 24/7.
Israel can restore to these poor deluded souls some semblance of reality quite easily and expeditiously. The ships must be intercepted and permanently seized with zero possibility or return to the legal owners.
While all the flot-niks are hoping for a dramatic, violent and bloody confrontation, where hopefully a few flot-niks may even die, (note that no flot-nik ever believes he/she will become one of the casualties), the Israelis will be sure no one is in the least injured.
Every single flot-nik must be photographed, fingerprinted and receive the whole proverbial nine yards of criminal booking under all applicable International Laws of the high seas. Then separated and placed in Israeli jails for as long as may be necessary to bring them to public trial. About two years would be a good start to organize all the evidence and charges.
All participating flot-nicks should in addition to their legally mandated jail sentences at the end of the trial process, be made to pay the full cost, including fines and damages for what their political flotilla prank ends up costing the government of Israel and its citizens- to the last penny.
Finally, all the above information should be highly publicized worldwide, right now, as well as mailed Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested to everyone involved. One of the commentators in another forum has already kindly supplied the names of many of the chief individuals involved in the June flotilla. But the names are all well known- rabid anti-semites all.
My guess is a very small number of the people planning to participate will decide that discretion is the better part of valor and withdraw. But most will not bow out, convinced from past actions against Israel that they are above the long arm of the Law and that no one will dare try to deprive them of their personal liberty despite all the mayhem they have cost to others.

If the Israeli government handles this flotilla situation correctly, taking into consideration that when you spare the rod- you only spoil the child, most of these anti-semitic flot-niks will finally get the message that in this Universe, for every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction.
If even a single boat is returned after being impounded or a single flotilla participant does not do serious hard time in an Israeli jail, then everything said here will count for naught and it is 100 % guaranteed that there will be bigger and ever more frequent flotillas in the future.
Once and for all the State of Israel must make certain that the entire world, especially those members of the anti-semitic world understand that the tail does not wag the dog and that even the patience of the Democratic nation of Israel has its limits.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has already fired the shot heard round the world.
Israel will have its first opportunity to be sure that shot was heard by all in the coming weeks. Game time is over.
Israel must cease employing endless words and endless explanations to justify its existence.
Israel's existence is a permanent and eternal "fait accompli" -and it has been since 1948- at the cost of the lives and precious blood of countless of its Sons and Daughters May They Rest In Peace- for making the ultimate sacrifice.
Those who endlessly seek to challenge the right of Israel's existence will never hear or understand or respect anything but strong actions on the part of Israel.
Israel may, and certainly will, face many endless challenges in the near and distant future from those who challenge Israel's right to exist.
But in June of the year 2011, the State of Israel must establish once and for all, in a fashion none can have any doubts about, that never again should any entity on this Earth, think for even a second about entering without permission, territory that belongs to the State of Israel.
They must clearly understand that they do so at their extreme cost and personal peril.

ReplyDeleteThank you for publishing my remarks regarding the actions I believe the government of Israel should employ in dealing with the upcoming 'Flotilla' challenge to the State of Israel.
I am quite concerned that if the government of Israel worries too much about world opinion they will be falling precisely into the perpetual trap the Flotilla organizers are hoping for. In short an overly careful and moderated response to deflect world criticism.
This is NOT the time for political correctness.
In short this time around Israel must stop worrying about Political Correctness and upsetting world opinion. Israel will be hated and criticized regardless of what it does now and always.
During one of Israel's very darkest hours when the initial military outcome of one of Israel's many wars seemed in doubt, President Nixon decided to assist Israel with an emergency shipment of arms.
Henry Kissenger, who I never particularly liked, immediately advised President Nixon that the United States planes delivering the emergency arms shipments should be totally repainted and camouflaged to hide any possibility that anyone might learn or even suspect that the arms shipments were being supplied by America.
Although I never voted for Nixon, I must admit it was one of his finest moments in the White House.
Nixon turned to Kissenger and declared that the whole world would of course obviously realize that the arms were arriving from America and that it would be ridiculous and pointless to try to deny the fact and that in any case the arms were needed by Israel and it did not matter a jot whether anyone liked it or not that that America was willing and prepared to assist Israel in her hour of mortal need.
Bravo to a man with some common sense.
Herein lies an important lesson for the present.
To follow the evasive, weasel like machinations of a man like Henry Kissenger (whose machinations many people believe were responsible for untold suffering and loss of lives on both sides during the Viet Nam war), or act in a straight forward, frank, out in the open manner and let the world think what it wishes.
The silly pretense that the Arabs will ever accept the presence of tiny little Israel in the Mid East is one of the grand illusions entertained by fools, hopeless romantics and dreamers as well as pathetic elected cowards who never cease trying to be politically correct to curry favor all around.
I would be most grateful, as I do not live in Israel if anyone reading these remarks can republish ALL my remarks regarding the upcoming "Flotilla" in full as shown herein above, to a wider audience and ideally forward them to anyone in the Israeli government who may be involved in preparing the Israeli response for the newest challenge to the State of Israel.
Sometimes even the "little guy" who never made it to becoming a Four Star General, can have some small helpful idea/s to offer up that may have eluded the experts.
Let no one underestimate what is at stake in Israel's reaction and handling of the events of the next few weeks near Israel's shores.
