Observation: Mahmoud Abbas 2: Israel Radio 0

Israel Radio is broadcasting portions of an exclusive interview with PA head Mahmoud Abbas over the course of today.

Abbas condemned the murders in Itamar but was not asked if killing settlers was legal within the framework of the Palestinian position that they have some kind of international right to engage in “resistance” against the occupation.

This is a critical issue. Then PM Rabin insisted that Arafat formally forfeit the right to engage in anything but political resistance on behalf of the Palestinians people as a prerequisite to Oslo.

But from the first day the Palestinians have ignored this.

As for “incitement”, Abbas repeated what the Palestinians have successfully done each time the issue has been raised: suggest that a joint Palestinian-Israeli-US committee determine what “incitement” is and then examine the activities of both sides. Each time this was done in the past the committee turned into an endless debating society.

  1. The Palestinians have been given excuses by both the Israeli and US governments and have never been asked to clean up their own society as a prerequisite for peace.

Nothing will change and there will be no peace in the future.
