LEBANON - TEN years after Israel pulled out, south Lebanon is solidly controlled by Hezbollah which is even organising 'jihadist tours' along one of the most tense borders in the Middle East.
About 500 young men and woman, both Christian and Muslim, took part at the weekend in the latest such field trip intended to garner support for the militant group which is considered one of Israel's fiercest enemies. 'We want to familiarise young people with the achievements of the resistance and show them how unjust the Israeli occupation was and how glorious the liberation by the Islamic resistance,' said Mohammed Taleb, 23, a Hezbollah militant who is studying environmental science.
The tour took place just days before May 25, which marks the withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon following a 22-year occupation. It also comes amid Israeli charges that Hezbollah, which fought a devastating war with the Jewish state in 2006, was stockpiling sophisticated weapons in preparation for a new conflict.
